    Description

The Amazon Private Brands (APB) team is building the shared data, workflow, and AI agent platform that powers the next generation of APB products. As the Software Development Manager for the team, you"ll own the vision, execution, and health of the platform, from dynamic data management and task orchestration to AI agent infrastructure built on Amazon Bedrock. You"ll lead a team of engineers, set technical and organizational direction, and partner closely with consuming teams to ensure the platform scales to meet the org"s needs.

Beyond leading delivery, we"re looking for someone who operates with high ownership and broad impact. The right candidate doesn"t just manage execution, they identify what needs to be built, align stakeholders across the org, and build the team and mechanisms to drive it to completion. They grow the engineers around them, raise the bar on technical and operational excellence, and leave both the team and the codebase in a better state than they found them.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Lead, hire, and develop a team of engineers building high-availability backend services in Java on AWS (ECS, RDS, EventBridge, Lambda)
    • Own the technical roadmap across all platform areas including data management, task lifecycle, and agent infrastructure, and prioritize against org-wide needs
    • Guide architecture decisions and review design docs that influence how APB teams build on top of the platform
    • Drive cross-team integrations, ensuring the APIs and contracts your team defines meet the needs of downstream teams
    • Grow engineers through coaching, career development, and feedback, and raise the technical bar through engineering standards and mechanisms
    • Partner with product and leadership to translate business requirements into a scalable technical strategy and staffed execution plan
    • Own the operational health of what your team builds, establish on-call, monitoring, and incident response practices, and drive continuous improvement
    • Manage team planning, delivery, and stakeholder communication, balancing short-term commitments with long-term platform investment

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
