Position Overview:

Green Street is building cloud-native data platforms that power industry-leading Commercial Real Estate (CRE) intelligence. We are looking for a hands-on Software Development Manager to lead a team responsible for ingesting, transforming, and delivering high-quality data used by clients and internal research teams worldwide.

This is a player-coach role (~50–70% hands-on coding) where you will balance technical leadership, team development, and delivery ownership. You’ll work closely with product, data, and engineering partners to build scalable systems that process complex datasets from a wide range of public and private sources.

Job Responsibilities:

What You’ll Do

Technical Leadership

  • Own the design, implementation, and evolution of our data platform, including ingestion pipelines, ETL processes, and database architecture
  • Contribute hands-on to system design and development (Python, AWS-based services)
  • Lead architecture and code reviews to ensure scalability, performance, security, and maintainability
  • Establish and enforce best practices for testing, observability, and code quality
  • Drive adoption of modern development practices, including AI-assisted engineering tools to improve productivity and quality

People Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers through coaching, feedback, and career development
  • Hire and onboard engineers to support team growth and long-term scaling
  • Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and engineering excellence
  • Support a highly transparent and inclusive team environment

Delivery & Execution

  • Own end-to-end delivery of multiple concurrent projects in an Agile environment
  • Partner with Product Managers and Technical Project Managers to define scope, priorities, and delivery plans
  • Proactively manage risks, dependencies, and stakeholder communication
  • Ensure consistent, predictable delivery with high-quality outcomes

Data Platform Ownership

  • Build and maintain scalable, reliable data pipelines and ingestion systems
  • Ensure high standards for data quality, integrity, and availability
  • Optimize systems for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency
  • Support both client-facing products and internal research workflows
Candidate Profile:

What We’re Looking For

Core Qualifications

  • 7 - 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 3 - 5 years leading engineering teams
  • Proven track record of delivering complex, data-intensive systems in a cloud environment
  • Strong hands-on experience with backend development and system design
  • Experience designing and building data models and working with relational and/or non-relational databases
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects from concept through delivery in Agile environments

Technical Experience

  • Strong proficiency in Python and data processing libraries (e.g., NumPy, Pandas)
  • Experience with modern data orchestration and pipeline tools (e.g., Airflow)
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services (e.g., ECS, Lambda, SQS, SNS) and containerization (Docker)
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform)
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD, version control (Git), and automated testing practices
  • Strong database and query optimization skills (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL)

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Experience working with distributed teams across multiple time zones
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to balance technical depth with execution and team leadership

Nice to Have

  • Experience in FinTech, data platforms, or Commercial Real Estate (CRE)
  • Experience building or scaling data-intensive products
  • Interest in leveraging AI tools to improve engineering workflows
Compensation, Benefits and Work Authorization:

In addition to the posted base salary range, this position is eligible for a performance bonus and benefits (subject to eligibility requirements) listed here. Total compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to, type of position, location, education level, work experience, and certifications. This information is applicable for all full-time positions.
