Job Summary:

Responsible for managing, creating, and maintaining controlled substance dispensing, monitoring and reporting programs. Develops, recommends and implements programs, procedures and techniques which will identify and minimize loss of Company assets and ensure the safety, compliance and security of the ordering and dispensing of controlled substances. Responsible for investigating and reporting potential violations of laws, regulations or Company policy applicable to controlled substances to the appropriate business units and Director, Pharmaceutical Integrity.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Recommends and implements programs designed to enhance and improve the ordering and dispensing of controlled substances (i.e. process and policy initiatives). Ensures Company-wide awareness and adequate understanding of the functions and responsibilities of the Pharmaceutical Distribution and Dispensing Integrity Group.
  • Develops and maintains an interactive and collaborative working relationship with government, law enforcement, and industry organizations (e.g., DEA, FDA, State Boards of Pharmacy, National Retail
  • Federation, Retail Industry Leaders Association, National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators) to drive industry leading solutions to pharmaceutical diversion.
  • Collaborates with other departments (e.g., Legal, Government Affairs, Logistics, Loss Prevention, IT, etc.) in order to meet the needs of the department and the Company's objectives.
  • Collaborates at all levels of management concerning required compliance and audit reviews and initiatives to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Coordinates unique investigations involving controlled substance ordering and dispensing, which may involve highly sensitive and /or extremely confidential information.
  • Recommends and coordinates efforts with corporate teams responsible for the development of controlled substance systems (e.g., e-Rx and suspicious order monitoring).
  • Develops innovative programs to identify and analyze areas that address drug diversion and regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinates and reviews the appropriate reporting of controlled substance inventory losses to the required federal and state agencies with Director of Pharmaceutical Integrity and legal. Ensures all filings are completed within the required timelines. Monitors changes to state and federal controlled substance laws and regulations and coordinates the communication of these changes to the appropriate areas within Walgreens.
  • Develops appropriate metrics to identify suspicious controlled substance acquisition, inventory or utilization.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree 2 years of experience in a relevant field (e.g. pharmacy operations, operations, compliance, loss prevention, drug investigation/diversion).
  • Experience presenting to and coordinating senior level meetings, including preparation of agendas, documenting meeting minutes, sending out documents to attendees.
  • Experience with analyzing and reporting data in order to identify issues, trends, or exceptions to drive improvement of results and find solutions.
  • Experience collaborating with internal and external resources to develop strategies that meet company and department goals within established timelines.
  • Experience evaluating information to determine compliance with standards, laws, and regulations.
  • Experience in identifying operational issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Excel (for example: using SUM function, setting borders, setting column width, inserting charts, using text wrap, sorting, setting headers and footers and/or print scaling).
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft PowerPoint (for example: applying a theme, formatting character spacing, inserting a picture, changing slide layout and theme colors, adding transitions, customizing slide numbers, changing chart style and/or formatting font).
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Word (for example: inserting headers, page breaks, page numbers and tables and/or adjusting table columns).
  • At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 2 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross-functional team leadership.
  • Willing to travel up to 50% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensed as a Registered Pharmacist as granted by the appropriate licensing authority.
  • At least 2 years' experience supervising/managing a company-wide loss prevention, compliance, or drug diversion operation and department.
  • At least 2 years' experience in policy/program development with respect to pharmacy operations.
  • At least 1 years' experience supervising/managing the purchasing of controlled substances within a pharmacy or retail operations environment.
  • Walgreens experience.
