Summary

The Manager of Nutrition Therapy and Diabetes Education serves as the operational and programmatic leader of inpatient nutrition services, outpatient nutrition services, and diabetes education services. The manager collaborates with a variety of stakeholders regarding the activity of these services throughout the health system. Programmatic areas of oversight may include medical nutrition therapy programs, dietetic internship coordination, food pantry program, diabetes education recognition program, and diabetes prevention program.

Qualifications

Required

  • Master's degree as required by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (effective Jan. 1, 2024)
  • Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) credential that is active and in good standing
  • Nevada-licensed Dietitian
  • Two (2) years' experience in clinical practice
  • Five (5) years' administrative experience, preferably in an acute care hospital setting
  • Experience in program management

Preferred

  • Experience with Computrition, EPIC
  • Certification from a recognized food safety course (e.g. ServSafe)

Essential Functions

  • Performs administrative functions including scheduling and timesheet maintenance.
  • Manages the provision of safe, high-quality, age-appropriate, and cost-effective nutrition therapy and diabetes education.
  • Functions as a mentor to ensure that clinical dietitians are experts in the Nutrition Care Process (assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and monitoring and evaluation) as integrated into patient care.
  • Ensures quick access to evidence-based information/resources related to assigned areas.
  • Understands and enforces individual and statutory scopes of practice for assigned areas based on national credentialing and state licensure specifications.
  • Ensures the development and maintenance of necessary policies, procedures, and processes that are compliant with Medicare standards and accreditation organization requirements for assigned areas.
  • Engages in ongoing quality improvement projects that are aligned with the mission, vision, and strategic direction of CTH. Involves trained, committed employees in quality control process. Establishes objective and measurable standards and follows up with corrective actions when goals are not met.
  • Conducts annual competency reviews and performance evaluations for assigned staff.
  • Evaluates and maintains cost control procedures in assigned areas, adhering to budget constraints while ensuring quality service.
  • Continually evaluates productivity to ensure areas are operating in a financially responsible manner.
  • Ensures the availability of a therapeutic diet manual or nutrition care manual (electronic or printed version) that can be accessed readily in all patient care areas.
  • Understands food safety standards and quality control aspects of meal service in health care.
  • Participates in menu planning and approves patient menus to meet dietary and regulatory guidelines.
  • Has adequate skills in informatics to hold a key role in managing food and nutrition management software (FNMS). Understands interoperability between the FNMS and the electronic health record (EHR) to ensure relevant clinical information is appropriately transmitted.
  • Understands outpatient billing and reimbursement practices for primary payers in assigned areas, and how to best meet the needs of patients within that context. Optimizes referral pathways and patient scheduling.
  • Identifies and presents opportunities to develop and expand departmental services and generate revenue.
  • Serves as the Diabetes Quality Coordinator (QC) responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES) service at all sites with duties and responsibilities as follows per the American Diabetes Association (ADA):
  • Oversees the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the DSMES service.
  • Coordinates the identification of DSMES stakeholders and liaises between the DSMES team members, the stakeholders, other departments, and administration.
  • Monitors and facilitates maintenance of DSMES team members qualification (CE credits, training, competency, licensures, and registrations).
  • Ensures DSMES outcomes are tracked.
  • Ensures the DSMES service always has a quality improvement project underway.
  • Completes the Recognition annual status report in the ERP portal in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for maintaining ADA Recognition and participating in the evaluation of the DSMES service's effectiveness.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
