POSITION SUMMARY: leads transportation operations for a defined geographic market and is accountable for its safety, service, and financial results. This role coordinates people, equipment, and customer commitments within the market.  

 

DUTIES:

  • Own safety, service, and financial results for the assigned market, including revenue, operating margin, and cost per load  
  • Build the annual operating plan for the market and adjust staffing, routes, and equipment as demand shifts through the season  

  • Determine fleet mix and replacement priorities for the market, and make the case for capital based on utilization, condition, and expected work  

  • Lead the market leadership team through hiring, performance expectations, coaching, and succession planning for supervisor and superintendent roles  

  • Set and enforce safety and compliance standards, review incidents for root cause, and correct the conditions that caused them  

  • Own the customer relationships that drive volume in the market, resolve service failures directly, and protect retention with key accounts  

  • Work with enterprise logistics to share capacity across markets, place outside carriers when internal fleet is short, and improve overall utilization  

  • Partner with sales and production leadership so transportation capacity is planned against committed and forecasted work 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor degree in business, logistics, or a related field preferred

  • Progressive transportation or operations leadership experience required 

  • Valid driver license required

  • Broad knowledge of transportation operations and market dynamics 

  • Financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and margin management 

  • Ability to lead through others and build accountable teams 

  • Customer and community relationship skills that support market growth 

  • Sound judgment when balancing local needs with enterprise priorities 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/SAFETY: 

  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, and reaching

  • Occasional lifting up to approximately 25 lbs

  • Regular travel to operating locations, customer sites, and projects
