The role is onshore and customer-facing and leads a blended onshore and offshore engineering team. • Own delivery for the data and BI workstream: scope, estimates, sequencing, and commitments against the release plan
• Lead a blended onshore and offshore team — assign work, run the delivery rhythm, and manage performance and development
• Act as the primary point of contact for customer stakeholders on data and reporting, translating business requirements into a technical plan
• Own the design of the SQL Server data warehouse and the dimensional models, and approve significant schema and ETL design decisions
• Review T-SQL, SSIS packages, and analytical datasets produced by the team, and set the engineering standards they are held to
• Own production stability for scheduled loads: escalation, root-cause review, and the corrective actions that follow
• Manage data quality, reconciliation, and audit expectations with the customer, including HIPAA-aware handling of member and provider data
• Identify and escalate risks — capacity, dependency, data availability — before they affect a committed date
• Partner with the integration, application, and BI teams, and with the offshore Tech Leads, to keep data consistent across systems • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
• 10–12 years of experience in data engineering or ETL development, including at least 3 years leading or managing an engineering team
• Strong, hands-on background in SQL Server and T-SQL
• Strong, hands-on background building and maintaining ETL in SSIS, including deployment, scheduling, and operational support
• Proven ownership of data warehouse and dimensional model design (star schema) for a production reporting platform
• Experience managing a blended onshore and offshore delivery model across time zones
• Track record of delivering to committed dates in a regulated enterprise environment, with the escalation judgment that requires
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including direct engagement with business and customer stakeholders • Daily, practical use of AI coding/assistant tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar) to accelerate T-SQL, SSIS package logic, and analytical query development
• Able to critically review and validate AI-generated code, queries, and transformations for correctness, performance, and data integrity before deployment
• Understanding of secure and compliant AI tool usage, including never entering PHI, member data, or other sensitive information into prompts or external AI tools
• Able to identify where AI-driven automation improves pipeline development, testing, or migration efficiency, and champion adoption within the team • Experience in the US health insurance or payer domain, particularly provider data: demographics, contracts, networks, credentialing
• Experience with SSRS, SSAS, or Power BI consuming the warehouses your team builds
• Exposure to the AWS data stack (Glue, S3, Athena) or to migrating SQL Server workloads to cloud
• Exposure to healthcare data standards (X12 EDI, HL7, FHIR)
• Relevant Microsoft SQL Server certifications
