Now Brewing - Manager, International Income Tax! #tobeapartner

From the beginning, Starbucks set out to be a different kind of company. One that not only

celebrated coffee and the rich tradition, but that also brought a feeling of connection. We are known for developing extraordinary leaders who share this passion and are guided by their service to others.

Bring your international tax expertise and passion for improving how work gets done to Starbucks' Income Tax Operations Team. As a manager in the Global Tax Department, you will manage U.S. international income tax compliance and related quarterly and annual tax provision deliverables, translate complex tax developments into practical recommendations, and support the Company's global tax policy and business initiatives. You will also help modernize tax operations through technology, data, and process innovation-partnering across Tax, Finance, and Technology to strengthen controls, improve data quality, and build scalable reporting processes.

As an International Income Tax Manager, you will…

    • Manage the U.S. international income tax compliance cycle, from data collection and calculation review through timely filing. Review international tax calculations, including GILTI/Section 951A, FDII, BEAT, Subpart F, and foreign tax credits, reflecting legislative changes applicable to the reporting period. Review required forms, including Forms 5471, 5472, 8858, 8865, and 1118; maintain tax basis, earnings and profits, and previously taxed earnings and profits (PTEP) attributes; and document filing positions and related risks.
    • Manage international tax calculations supporting quarterly and annual income tax provisions under ASC 740. Partner with the tax provision team to reconcile return and provision results, explain significant differences, and maintain clear, audit-ready workpapers.
    • Monitor U.S. and foreign tax legislation and regulatory developments, assess their impact on Starbucks, and communicate practical recommendations to tax leadership. Research complex issues, document technical conclusions, and help implement compliant, tax-efficient approaches that protect the Starbucks brand.
    • Support tax planning, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, and reorganizations by assessing compliance and reporting implications. Partner with tax controversy colleagues to prepare analyses and documentation for tax authority inquiries and audits.
    • Maintain and strengthen documented review procedures, reconciliations, and controls over international tax reporting. Translate changing compliance requirements into clear work plans, data requirements, and accountable processes.
    • Partner with Technology team to prioritize and execute an international income tax technology roadmap. Lead tax requirements, testing, and adoption for implementation and optimization of calculation, compliance, and reporting platforms, connecting tax data needs with ERP and upstream financial systems.
    • Automate recurring calculations, return workpapers, reconciliations, and data ingestion. Evaluate appropriate AI-enabled improvements with Technology partners and established review safeguards.
    • Coordinate with Tax Planning, Tax Provision, Transfer Pricing, Accounting, and Finance to resolve reporting issues and align technical positions. Manage external service providers, deliverable quality, and deadlines, and communicate priorities and risks to stakeholders.
    • Share technical updates, deliver practical training, and maintain team knowledge resources to support consistent application of tax requirements and reporting processes.
    • Coach and mentor junior partners, provide clear direction and constructive review, and support their technical and professional development.

We'd love to hear from people with:

    • 5 - 8 years of international income tax experience in public accounting or a large public company, including hands-on responsibility for complex U.S. international compliance and review.

    • Strong U.S. international corporate income tax expertise (e.g., GILTI/Section 951A, FDII, BEAT, foreign tax credits, Subpart F, E&P, PTEP, and tax basis), with the ability to apply legislative changes to the relevant reporting period.

    • Strong tax research, analytical, and technical writing skills, with the ability to explain complex issues, risks, and recommendations clearly to tax leadership and non-tax colleagues.

    About Company

Every day, we go to work hoping to do two things: share great coffee with our friends and help make the world a little better. It was true when the first Starbucks opened in 1971, and it’s just as true today.

Back then, the company was a single store in Seattle’s historic Pike Place Market. From just a narrow storefront, Starbucks offered some of the world’s finest fresh-roasted whole bean coffees. The name, inspired by Moby Dick, evoked the romance of the high seas and the seafaring tradition of the early coffee traders.

In 1981, Howard Schultz (Starbucks chairman and chief executive officer) had first walked into a Starbucks store. From his first cup of Sumatra, Howard was drawn into Starbucks and joined a year later.

In 1983, Howard traveled to Italy and became captivated with Italian coffee bars and the romance of the coffee experience. He had a vision to bring the Italian coffeehouse tradition back to the United States. A place for conversation and a sense of community. A third place between work and home. He left Starbucks for a short period of time to start his own Il Giornale coffeehouses and returned in August 1987 to purchase Starbucks with the help of local investors.

From the beginning, Starbucks set out to be a different kind of company. One that not only celebrated coffee and the rich tradition, but that also brought a feeling of connection.
