    Description

Are you excited about leading engineering teams that build AI-powered compliance and security tools protecting millions of customers worldwide? Do you want to own the development of intelligent automation systems that combine machine learning, natural language processing, and cloud-native architectures to solve some of the most impactful problems in cloud security?

Join Amazon"s security organization in Seattle where you"ll lead a high-performing engineering team building and operating critical compliance infrastructure and intelligent document processing systems. Your team"s software enables security and compliance professionals to manage evidence at scale, automate sensitive information handling through AI/ML-driven workflows, and orchestrate complex data governance processes that maintain the highest bar for customer trust.

In this role, you"ll define and drive a 1-3 year strategic vision for your team"s products, make key architectural decisions across ML pipelines, distributed systems, and security-critical workflows, and deliver meaningful improvements that directly impact AWS"s compliance posture. You"ll partner closely with legal, security, and compliance stakeholders to translate complex regulatory requirements into elegant engineering solutions-all while building a culture of innovation, inclusion, and operational excellence.

We"re looking for a leader who is energized by the intersection of AI/ML and security compliance, thrives in ambiguous problem spaces, and is passionate about developing engineers while shipping software that matters.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Lead, develop, and inspire a talented team of engineers building AI/ML-powered compliance and security automation tools, providing mentorship, career growth opportunities, and creating an inclusive team environment
    • Define and execute strategic roadmaps by working backwards from customer problems, owning team charter, vision, tenets, and long-term architectural decisions that influence organizational goals
    • Drive architecture, design, and delivery of intelligent document processing systems leveraging NLP, machine learning models, and generative AI to automate compliance workflows at scale
    • Own operational excellence for security-critical systems handling sensitive data, including incident response, security reviews, and maintaining the highest standards for data protection and privacy
    • Partner with engineering, legal, science, and security teams to identify opportunities for AI/GenAI innovation, evaluate emerging technologies, and integrate them into the team"s product roadmap
    • Make sound technical trade-offs across ML model training and deployment, distributed systems design, and cloud infrastructure modernization while managing cross-team dependencies
    • Create mechanisms to scale delivery, measure customer impact through data-driven metrics, and continuously improve software quality aligned with Amazon"s engineering best practices

    A day in the life

Your day starts with your team standup, where you"re balancing strategic priorities-maybe a GenAI feature for intelligent content analysis, a security infrastructure migration, or an operational improvement to your workflows. You"ll review a design document for an ML pipeline enhancement, provide feedback that pushes your engineers toward simpler, more scalable solutions, and then shift to a roadmap discussion with your legal and compliance stakeholders.

After lunch, you might dive deep into an operational metric that"s trending the wrong direction, coach a senior engineer on their promotion path, or participate in an architecture review with peer teams. You close out the day feeling energized because your team ships software that directly protects customers and strengthens trust in AWS-and you"re building a team culture where people do the best work of their careers.

Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
