Job Description

The Jacksonville Public Library is actively seeking a Manager for Library Technology.

This position reports to the Assistant Director for Library Systems and Technology and is responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating the work of the Library Technology team, performing extensive library related technology work. The Manager for Library Technology is responsible for supervising assigned staff, coordinating workflow, implementing internal communications plans, and managing day-to-day technology work. They provide leadership, supervision, training, and guidance to library technology staff, ensuring that projects are completed on time and aligned with the Library's mission.

Examples of Work

  • Plans, organizes, and manages the day-to-day operations of the Library Technology team.

  • Develops technology and system requirements, specifications, process analyses, user acceptance testing plans and end-user training programs for library technology, systems and applications.

  • Serves as project manager for library technology related projects. Develops project plans, monitors projects and communicates regularly with stakeholders.

  • Learns and oversees configuration management capabilities for third-party products as appropriate; monitors the application life cycle and creates maintenance plan for assigned third-party products.

  • Acts as a liaison between the Library and vendors to ensure library technology and systems are working at optimum performance.

  • Acts as a liaison with other library work groups to develop strong collaborative, cross-functional partnerships at all levels.

  • Keeps abreast of changing technology and demonstrates proficiency in learning and applying appropriate technology to library services.

  • Schedules, assigns, monitors, reviews, trains, and evaluates the work of assigned staff.

  • Compiles, reports and verifies library statistics, on a regular schedule and on demand as needed.

  • Develops data-informed recommendations and implements changes to advance organizational goals.

  • Assists with the Librarys annual and strategic planning process in particular as related to library technology.

  • Supports the overall mission of the Library by providing customer service in a manner that creates positive customer experience.

  • Monitors and reviews budget appropriations and expenditures for assigned work activity.

  • Assists with maintaining appearance standards by reporting facilities issues and picking up litter on library grounds.

  • Communicates clear direction, manages for results, and leads organizational change.

  • Assigns responsibility, takes corrective action, demonstrates leadership in evaluating, developing, and motivating employees.

Open Requirements/Supplemental Information

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • At least five (5) years professional experience in systems administration or information technology.
  • Two years of supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Two years experience in a library setting is preferred.
  • A graduate degree from an American Libraries accredited program is preferred.
