Job Specifications

The City of Tallahassee is seeking a skilled, experienced accountant to lead our centralized accounting and financial reporting functions. In this role, youll oversee the general ledger, fund accounting, and month-end/year-end close processes while managing a team dedicated to maintaining the integrity of the Citys financial records.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee staff and manage the Citys centralized accounting operations, including the general ledger, fund accounting, and month- end/year-end close.
  • Serve as primary liaison to external auditors, coordinating the annual audit and preparing four Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports (ACFRs) for the City, Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency, Consolidated Dispatch Agency, and the Capital Region Transportation Planning Agency.
  • Lead implementation of GASB pronouncements, ensuring full compliance in financial statement preparation.
  • Oversee investment and bank reconciliations and manage the integration of internal and external data into the general ledger.
  • Provide centralized accounting support and guidance across all City departments while safeguarding the accuracy of financial records.

Minimum Training & Experience

Possession of a Master's Degree in public or business administration, finance, accounting, or a related field and have at least six years of professional and administrative experience in public sector finance? NOTE: Three years of the required experience MUST have been in a supervisory capacity.

or

Possession of a bachelor's degree in public or business administration, finance, accounting, or a related field and have at least seven years of professional and administrative experience in public sector finance? NOTE: Three years of the required experience MUST have been in a supervisory capacity.

or

Possession of a CPA Certification and have at least six years of professional and administrative experience in public sector finance? NOTE: Three years of the required experience MUST have been in a supervisory capacity.

Salary Range

$39.1581 to $106.2586/hourly. Hiring rate generally will not exceed $69.1602/hour
