ROLE TITLE: Manager, Alumni Impact

POSITION REPORTS TO: SMD, Alumni Impact

WHAT YOU'LL DO

At Teach For America, we know that leadership is the most powerful lever for change. In North Carolina, we are cultivating a community of extraordinary leaders-beginning with our corps members and extending to our 2,300+ alumni-who are deeply committed to ensuring that every child has access to an excellent education and the opportunity to thrive.

As a member of the Alumni Impact team, you will contribute to the experience, learning, and impact of TFA alumni living throughout the state. Your unique role will be to manage alumni event operations and communications strategies, as well as maintain strong alumni data systems, in support of a thriving alumni network.

WHAT YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

Manage events that inspire and equip alumni to contribute to our 2030 goals (50%)

  • Design, implement, and evaluate alumni convening tactics that align to the Alumni Impact Team charge and strategic plan

  • Ensure strong logistical planning and financially efficient implementation of all convenings

  • Support individual alumni outreach, registration, and travel logistics for TFA programs and partner programs, such as programming at the Center for Creative Leadership and the Aspen Institute Executive Seminar

  • Analyze convening effectiveness, define opportunities for improvement, and make timely changes in pursuit of the broader Alumni Impact team's goals.

  • Examples of convenings include, but are not limited to:

  • RISE Fellowship Program

  • Partner with the MD, Alumni Impact to execute RISE events

  • Develop and implement communications strategies for the RISE Fellowship in collaboration with the MD, Alumni Impact

  • Support the recruitment and communications initiatives of the fellowship as directed

  • Alumni events

  • Location-based small group gatherings, such as a recent WNC Alumni Gathering

  • Sector- or career-specific gatherings, such as the Thought Leader Series

  • Virtual gatherings, such as 35th Anniversary Alumni Reunion calls

  • Alumni Induction

  • Partner across Educational Impact & Alumni Impact teams to support an annual Alumni Induction event that honors Corps Member impact and marks their transition to alumnihood.

Manage alumni communications that strengthen connection, community, and engagement (20%)

  • Design, implement, and evaluate alumni communication tactics that strengthen connection, community, and engagement across the state

  • Collaborate with both Team NC as well as centralized teams to analyze communication effectiveness, define opportunities for improvement, and make timely changes in pursuit of the broader Alumni Impact team's goals

  • Support national alumni communications campaigns, as relevant

  • Examples of communication tactics include, but are not limited to:

  • Alumni newsletter

  • Lead the development and distribution of the NC alumni newsletter in partnership with the Director, Strategic Initiatives to ensure timely, clear, and engaging communication aligned to the Alumni Impact team's charge and key alumni initiatives

  • Curate content that strengthens alumni connection, highlights impact stories and career acceleration opportunities, and elevates opportunities for engagement across the NC network.

  • Centralized Alumni communications

  • Manage external communications through the centralized NC alumni inbox to create clearer visibility into incoming requests, reduce the risk of missed messages, and ensure that each inquiry is assigned to the right person for timely follow-up.

  • Partner with the Marketing & Communications team to ensure appropriate voice and brand-alignment for all one-off mass emails

  • Social Media Platforms

  • Manage NC alumni groups on platforms like LinkedIn and Facebook by posting content and replying to messages

Maintain data systems & data integrity (20%)

  • Manage NC alumni records in a CRM platform (currently Microsoft Dynamics)

  • Maintain clean stakeholder records for all NC alumni

  • Collaborate with the Director, Strategic Initiatives in making timely updates to stakeholder records

  • Pull information for specific initiatives or team requests in a timely manner

  • Ensure continuity between communications campaigns and CRM records

  • Maintain the Alumni Impact team's internal knowledge management system, making necessary updates to our team site, sharepoint, and google drive

Serve as an organizational steward (10%)

  • Support and engage in prioritized North Carolina and TFA-wide initiatives. Examples may include participation in:

  • Staff committees, working groups, and task forces

  • Regional events and programming

  • Corps member & Ignite selection

A WEEK IN THE LIFE

Your weeks will vary based on each quarter's priorities, though you can expect several projects happening simultaneously regardless of time of year! Your Monday may start with some shared inbox email triage and alumni record updates in our CRM, and transition into project-based meetings in the afternoon. Midweek, you may attend an in-person alumni gathering or support a virtual convening while planning another one for a different community or sector. You may also gather alumni stories, leadership development or graduate school program opportunities, and alumni network requests for our monthly newsletter that you are preparing to send next week. Your week could close with tracking progress towards goals, finishing any CRM updates, having your biweekly 1:1 with your manager, and putting a bow on any outstanding alumni requests before logging off for the weekend.

YOUR EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The Basics

  • 2+ years of professional experience

  • Previous experience working in PK-12 education, higher education, or program coordination

Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and consistently track multiple tasks simultaneously to meet goals, communicate progress, and follow through with execution plans

  • Orientation to problem-solving and action, and a relentless goal orientation; willing to jump in and quickly take on work when urgent needs arise with a spirit of flexibility and a positive outlook

  • Demonstrated ability to navigate relationships and structures to inspire action toward shared goals

  • Genuine excitement for efficiency and support of others to achieve collective goals

  • Exceptional organization skills and unwavering attention to detail

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, remote-first environment

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Intermediate proficiency with Outlook, Google, and Microsoft platforms

Work Demands

  • Ability to work an average of 40 hours per week, majority during Eastern time business hours

  • Occasional evening and weekend work required

  • Occasional travel to Teach For America offices across North Carolina required utilizing your own transportation, with reimbursement for all mileage per TFA travel policy

BONUS

  • Proficiency in Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics, or another similar CRM platform

YOUR COMPENSATION

The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 3 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. The expected salary ranges for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.
