Role Overview:

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the company's accounting functions, financial reporting, month-end close process, job costing, commission administration, payroll support activities, reconciliations, fleet administration, and financial analysis. This role will serve as a trusted business partner to operational leaders and play a key role in improving financial visibility and operational performance throughout the organization.

The ideal candidate possesses strong accounting knowledge, exceptional analytical skills, leadership capabilities, and the ability to translate financial data into actionable business insights.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Management & ReportingManage day-to-day accounting operations.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Review general ledger activity, account reconciliations, and journal entries.
  • Analyze financial performance and provide variance analysis against budget, forecast, and prior periods.
  • Develop and maintain financial dashboards, KPIs, and performance reporting.
  • Provide financial modeling, forecasting, and decision-support analysis.
  • Assist with annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Monitor budget performance and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support cash flow forecasting and financial planning initiatives.
  • Identify financial risks and opportunities impacting business performance.
  • Oversee job costing processes, ensuring labor, materials, and subcontractor costs are accurately allocated.
  • Analyze profitability by department, service line, and project.
  • Monitor operational KPIs, labor utilization, revenue trends, and gross margins.
  • Partner with leadership to identify opportunities to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee commission calculations and incentive compensation programs.
  • Review labor reporting and timesheet data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Partner with payroll and operations teams to ensure accurate labor cost reporting.
  • Monitor accounts receivable performance and support collection efforts.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial policies.
  • Support internal and external audits while maintaining audit-ready documentation.
  • Oversee fleet administration, including vehicle records, registrations, maintenance tracking, and fuel card management.
  • Monitor company assets and support capital expenditure tracking.
  • Develop, document, and improve accounting processes and standard operating procedures.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, automation, and risk reduction.
  • Collaborate with operations, service, sales, and leadership teams to improve business performance.
  • Mentor and support accounting and administrative team members as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
  • 2+ years of accounting leadership, supervisory, or management experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and month-end close activities.
  • Experience with commission calculations, labor reporting, and operational accounting preferred.
  • Experience within the HVAC, construction, home services, manufacturing, or trade industries.
  • Experience with ServiceTitan, Sage Intacct, or comparable ERP/accounting systems.
  • Familiarity with multi-location operations and service-based businesses.
