Part Time 20-25 Hours a week / Onsite in San Jose
The intern/temporary worker will provide support to the Office of Government Relations, primarily for the Local Government Relations program.
We are requesting a graduate intern or temporary worker due to the advanced experience required to fill this position.
The temp will have significant exposure to and the opportunity to engage on Valley Water's legislative and policy priorities with a focus on the local and federal levels.
They will have the opportunity to provide professional analytical and advocacy support to advance these priorities with elected and appointed officials and key advocacy partners during the duration of the assignment.
They may also have the chance to serve as the Valley Water representative and advocate during external meetings in order to influence these same parties and external associations. The temp will also gain experience with evaluating and processing community sponsorship applications and supporting the unit's needs for community booths and events during festival season, among other duties. They will also prepare specific speaking points, white papers, and other advocacy materials for presentation to and advocacy efforts before external policy and decision makers. Finally, they will engage with strategic external partners and help shape public policy and opinion while building the Valley Water's image, brand and reputation. In addition to a routine work schedule, the temp will work on some nights and weekends.

Strong understanding of the inner workings of local, state and/or federal legislatures, committees, government bodies and agencies.
Minimum training and experience requirements for this classification:
LEVEL I
Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public administration, business administration, accounting, finance, or a related field.
Experience
One (1) year of experience performing administrative, operational, management, or financial analysis of complex issues.
Substitution
Directly related experience may be substituted for the college requirement on the basis of one and one-half years of experience for one year of education to a maximum of four years.
LEVEL II
Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public administration, business administration, accounting, finance, or a related field.
Experience
Three (3) years of experience performing administrative, operational, management, or financial analysis of complex issues.
Substitution
Directly related experience may be substituted for the college requirement on the basis of one and one-half
