    Critical Thinking: In the Makerspace, critical thinking and problem-solving skills are crucial. While Lab Tech I is the first position and they are still learning it is imperative to know when they need to ask for help or when they can figure it out themselves. MAJOR ASPECT

    Communication: Students must articulate their ideas, ask questions, and explain their projects to peers and professors. Communicating with your supervisor is necessary when you have a question.

    Technology: Makerspaces are technology-driven environments. Makerspace Tech 1s are fresh to the space and will need to learn and effectively comprehend the technologies used on the floor. MAJOR ASPECT

    Teamwork: Whether it is your internal team or a client, you will be working with others daily. Working with them effectively and efficiently is necessary.

    Professionalism/Work Ethic: Working in this space requires safety and safety requires you to be professional and diligent at your work. There is no place for misuse or abuse of equipment or your time.

    Equity and Inclusion: Students can interact with peers to foster intercultural fluency. We also work to bring STEM education to underrepresented populations through outreach.

    Makerspace Lab Technicians are workers in the I-HACK 6th Floor and 3rd floor labs. They help in the Makerspace by learning how the technology on the floor works and maintaining such equipment. They will learn from the Lab Tech 2's and use teamwork to properly manage any project or challenge that comes across the floor. They will assist the team in the upkeep of the lab and help Gannon community members in the space.

    Their main responsibilities will be:

    • Learning the flow of the Makerspace
    • Learning the safe operation of basic equipment and hand tools
    • Maintaining the cleanliness and proper presentation of the floor

    These responsibilities will be carried out by:

    • Assisting other lab technicians in their daily responsibilities
    • Shadowing other trained individuals in open lab hours
    • Keeping an eye out for tasks that may need to be done in the space

    Required Qualifications

    A basic knowledge of subtractive or additive manufacturing, CAD Design, and basic programming skills. Willingness to learn new skills and equipment.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Technical trade skills, or manufacturing experience.

    Physical Demands

    This position requires the individual to wear and work in personal protective equipment. This position requires that the individual is able to lift a minimum of 50lbs.
