Summary

The Major Gift Officer is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding alumni and friends who are major gift prospects for W&J. The Major Gift Officer will manage the solicitation of gifts from prospective donors rated $25,000 and higher. The officer will be expected to bring sustained fundraising efficiency and results.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of 125-150 major gift prospects through strategic cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
  • Collaborate with College leadership and departmental partners to identify donor interests aligned with institutional priorities, strategic initiatives, and campaign goals.
  • Partner with the Stewardship and Annual Giving Officer to ensure meaningful and timely stewardship of donors and prospects.
  • Develop and execute individualized cultivation and solicitation strategies for assigned prospects.
  • Maintain regular and systematic contact with prospects and donors through multiple communication channels.
  • Engage, recruit, and motivate volunteers, alumni, event attendees, and other stakeholders in cultivation, solicitation, and special programming efforts.
  • Serve as a positive ambassador for W&J by exemplifying the values and mission of the institution and practicing the W&J Way.
  • Travel extensively nationwide within assigned regions to cultivate and maintain donor relationships.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, preferably in higher education, required.
  • Demonstrated track record of fundraising success.
  • Must be able to work independently within a team as well as collaboratively with colleagues to achieve the common goals for donors and W&J.
  • Be flexible, confident, professional, and enthusiastic.
  • Be self-motivated with a high ethical standard.
  • Results-oriented with excellent prospect management skills.
  • Able to travel extensively.
  • Must have computer literacy.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
