The Parish Facilities Assistant Manager supports and promotes initiatives and decisions that fulfill the mission and operations of the Parish. This includes both the church and school but is primarily focused on the school building and grounds. This role shares responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of the physical plant and makes sure the building, and grounds are maintained in such a way as to provide a high quality and safe environment for parishioners, students, faculty, staff, and visitors to our campus.  

Working with the Director of Facilities and Operations, and other facilities personnel, the Facilities Assistant Manager is responsible for the maintenance and proper performance of the key mechanical systems (HVAC, Lighting, fire, plumbing and security).  Other duties include, cleaning, trash removal, routine electrical and plumbing repairs, installation of AV equipment and computer wiring, snow removal, and performing some janitorial tasks, including events set up.   

Responsibilities: 

  • Hands-on responsibility for maintenance and proper performance of the Campus’s primary mechanical systems (HVAC, alarm, and security systems), routine electrical and plumbing repairs. 
  • Manages and keeps abreast of current trends and best practices for all aspects of facilities and property management, pneumatics, HVAC design, energy and environmental practices, life safety codes (including OSHA), fire protection, disaster preparedness, elevators, building structure integrity. 
  • Identifies and escalates facilities issues with suggested solutions.  
  • Handles emergencies effectively and timely related to parish facilities and grounds.  
  • Assures that maintenance logs are current, accurate and address identifiable problems. 
  • Supports the policies and procedures for regulatory compliance mandated on all levels of government licensing and/or civic responsibilities. Assist in the inspections related to the work.  
  • Sample maintenance tasks are sweeps, dusts, mops, strips, waxes, and vacuums floors. Removes trash from offices and all work areas. Cleans restrooms and replenishes supplies. Operate snow removal equipment.   
  • Mechanical Systems 
    • Conduct Emergency light/Fire Alarm System monthly testing. 
    • Conduct monthly pressure check of fire extinguishers. 
    • Assist with routine HVAC maintenance. 
    • Replace light bulbs, air filters when needed.  
  • Technology Infrastructure 
    • Install computer cabling for desk-top and wireless applications, or support outside vendor. 
    • Install projectors, smart boards, etc.
  • Completes minor repairs in designated buildings, including:  
    • Electrical Repair, e.g., change bulbs, ballasts, fixtures, outlets, circuit breakers, etc. 
    • Plumbing Repair/maintenance.  
    • Painting and minor carpentry.  
    • Minor tuckpointing and repair of stonework.  
  • Additional Duties  
    • Perform preventative maintenance. 
    • Setup and takedown of tables, chairs, and equipment for events 
    • Snow removal  
    • Lawn Mowing  
  • Participates in staff meetings and in meeting related to facilities and grounds, including those not during regular work hours as needed. 
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with all with whom they interact. 
  •  Other responsibilities as assigned. 

Requirements 

  • Possession of high school diploma/GED paired with all current licenses as required by federal, state, and local regulations for this position. 
  • At least five (5) years of proven success in hands on building maintenance.  
  • Professional knowledge, practical experience, and physical capacity to maintain essential equipment including the supervision of contracted professionals who provide preventive or emergency services.  
  • Knowledge of current applicable NFPA fire codes, National Life Safety Code, OSHA regulations and Hazardous waste protocol. 
  • Basic office and computer skills necessary to effectively use computerized control system, monitor maintenance request system and execute online purchasing.  
  • Well-developed communication/interpersonal skills to collaborate professionally with the others according to the mission and values of Saint Clement. 
  • A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record consistent with Archdiocese policies.  
    • Ability to operate other motorized equipment such as, but not limited to, snowplows, lawn mowers, etc. 
  • Availability and willingness to fulfill the on call, off hour needs of the Church/School as the position requires. 
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb to high and difficult places and work at those places. Frequent bending, carrying, lifting, and stooping. Excellent hand-eye and mind-eye coordination. Regular standing and walking.  
  • Knowledge of hand and power tools, painting materials and tools, lumber products, and plaster/drywall repair, operating snow removal equipment and other lawn care and mechanical tools. 
  • Will also be required to comply with hiring requirements of the Archdiocese of Chicago.
