Nature and Scope of Job:
The job of the Maintenance Mechanic is to maintain and repair physical buildings and grounds in
order to continue ongoing high quality and safety for students, employees and visitors. This
position shall be able to perform skilled work in more than one trade or craft. Typically, this
individual has specialized training or certifications in one or more trades and possess knowledge
and understands the inter-working's of other trades. Must have the ability to perform highly
efficient work, independently or in teams, on a variety of: routine, skilled, semi-skilled
maintenance, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electrical, mechanical,
carpentry and/or plumbing tasks.
Job Functions
Essential Functions:
- Performs and understands the basics of the various trades.
- Performs and or directs troubleshooting/repairs to facilities: electrical, mechanical,
carpentry and plumbing systems.
- Possess basic troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance tasks.
- Able to convey project issues clearly and concisely.
- Experienced with using a multi meter: determining voltages, amperages and
resistances.
- Interprets building blueprints and drawings.
- Interprets equipment schematics.
- Maintains record keeping function for all assigned tasks.
- Operates/maintains snow removal equipment.
- Operates vehicles.
- Transports tools and equipment to various worksites.
- Loads and unloads materials and supplies.
- Maintains proper inventory of equipment, supplies and tools required to perform
assigned duties.
- Communicate clearly and distinctly: written and verbal.
- Maintain security and safety.
- Availability to work on call and emergency hours.
- Comply with district policies and procedures.
- Actively participate in meetings and trainings as scheduled.
- Pursue education and training opportunities in reach of future certifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Work flexible hours.

Job Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Mental Ability:
- Must have a general knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment and general
maintenance.
- Basic understanding of electricity.
- Comprehend all job aspects.
- Comprehend oral and written directions.
- Be able to work with various personalities.
Minimum Requirements:
- HS diploma, GED equivalent or any of the following:
- Completed a Vo-Tech course or trade-oriented course
- Certification, accreditation or licensure in one or multiple areas, e.g. Electrical license,
ICC Certifications.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and carry 100'.
- Ability to stand or walk throughout the day.
- Ability to repeatedly climb, crawl, bend, squat, stoop, twist, reach above shoulder, push
and pull.
Environmental Demands:
- Indoor and outdoor work
- Potential hazards such as high voltages, machinery, elevated work areas, occasional
temperature extremes
- Non-air conditioned buildings
- Occasional exposure to weather extremes
- Ability to work under various types of lighting
