About the Role
The Maintenance Technician is a key contributor to the safety, functionality, and aesthetic quality of residential properties. With a focus on hands-on repair, construction, and preventive maintenance, the technician ensures that units remain in excellent condition and that tenant concerns are addressed promptly and professionally. Working across multiple properties in the East Bay, the technician demonstrates strong technical skills in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and emergency response, while supporting team operations through material handling, vendor coordination, and responsive communication. Through diligence, adaptability, and a commitment to high service standards, the Maintenance Technician plays a vital role in delivering a positive resident experience and maintaining property value.
Primary Responsibilities
1. General Maintenance & Repairs
Complete assigned work orders related to residential repairs and maintenance.
Repair or replace water lines, water heaters, valves, cartridges, and unclog drains.
Troubleshoot and repair electrical issues including outlets, fixtures, and breakers.
Perform drywall repairs including floating walls, taping, mudwork, and texturing.
Paint interior and exterior surfaces of residential units.
2. Carpentry & Construction Tasks
Install baseboards, door casing, cabinetry, new flooring, and perform door/window replacements.
Assist with minor structural work as needed on units during turnovers.
3. Preventive & Emergency Maintenance
Perform preventive maintenance and document recurring issues.
Prepare for and respond to emergencies including floods, fires, power outages, and earthquakes.
Replace or repair gas heaters and conduct life safety alarm checks (e.g., carbon monoxide and smoke detectors).
4. Logistics & Field Operations
Procure, load, unload, and move materials; run errands for the maintenance department.
Work across various properties in the East Bay as assigned.
Secondary Responsibilities
1. Teamwork & Customer Service
Support other team members and participate in collaborative maintenance tasks.
Communicate effectively with tenants, vendors, and supervisors to resolve issues quickly and respectfully.
Contribute to a safe, professional, and team-oriented work environment.
Maintain high standards of integrity, morale, and loyalty.
2. Vendor & Scheduling Coordination
Assist in scheduling and coordinating vendor activities and tenant availability.
Ensure projects and repairs are completed efficiently and in line with company quality standards.
3. On-Call Flexibility
Be available for on-call assignments as needed for after-hours emergencies or urgent issues.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; a certificate in Building Maintenance Technology or a related field is a plus
Must complete and maintain current certifications in lead, asbestos, and mold remediation and other classes as required
1–3 years of experience as a Maintenance Technician preferred
Proficient in using a smartphone and email for work-related communication and tasks
Must have a reliable vehicle, a valid driver’s license, and current insurance (pickup truck preferred)
Compensation and Benefits
Hourly rate range: $24-$40 per hour based on experience
