Maintenance Technician

Location: Petersburg, VA
Pay: $32.00–$33.00 per hour
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
Training: One week of on-site training
Overtime: Weekend overtime may be available and candidates must be open to working OT as needed
PPE: Required PPE will be provided; employees must provide their own steel-toe work boots

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to join an industrial chemical plant in Petersburg, VA. This is a hands-on position for someone with strong mechanical aptitude and experience operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial equipment.

The ideal candidate will have at least 2-3 years of industrial mechanical, machine operation, or maintenance experience, preferably in a chemical plant, manufacturing facility, refinery, processing plant, or similar industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate and monitor industrial machinery and processing equipment.
• Perform mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on pumps, motors, valves, piping systems, and other plant equipment.
• Remove, install, inspect, and troubleshoot electronic and mechanical flow meters.
• Cut, thread, fit, repair, and install industrial piping.
• Identify mechanical problems and perform preventative and corrective maintenance.
• Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical equipment issues.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment diagrams, electrical schematics, and technical manuals.
• Perform routine equipment inspections and report potential safety or maintenance concerns.
• Follow plant safety procedures and chemical-handling requirements at all times.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area and properly document completed work.
• Work closely with plant operators, maintenance personnel, and supervisors to minimize equipment downtime.
• Be available for weekend overtime when production or maintenance needs require it.

Qualifications

• 2-3+ years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical maintenance, machine operation, millwright work, industrial maintenance, or a related position.
• Strong knowledge of pumps, motors, valves, piping, bearings, mechanical equipment, and industrial machinery.
• Experience cutting, threading, fitting, and repairing piping systems.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
• Experience with mechanical machine repair and electrical troubleshooting.
• Strong understanding of industrial safety procedures.
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, measuring equipment, and mechanical maintenance tools.
• Ability to stand, bend, climb, lift, and work in an industrial plant environment.
• Must have reliable transportation to Petersburg, VA.
• Must have steel-toe work boots.

Preferred Certifications & Training

The following certifications or training are highly preferred:

• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 – General Industry
• HAZWOPER 40-Hour Certification
• Forklift / Powered Industrial Truck Certification
• Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Training
• Confined Space Entry Training
• Respiratory Protection / Fit Testing
• NFPA 70E Electrical Safety Training
• Industrial Maintenance, Millwright, Mechanical, or related trade certification

Candidates with previous experience working around chemicals, industrial processing equipment, pumps, valves, piping systems, and rotating equipment are strongly encouraged to apply.
