    Position Summary 

    The Maintenance Technician is under the direct supervision of the Support Services Director and his/her assistant. This position is responsible for performing general maintenance tasks of the hospital’s plumbing, electrical, medical gas, heating and air conditioning systems. He/she will also be responsible for performing maintenance work on the hospital grounds and its related equipment along with other hospital properties. Employees in this job classification will maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff by utilizing available resources and their maintenance skills.

    Major Responsibilities

    Mechanical skills and Critical thinking – 60%

    • Performs maintenance duties related to the hospital grounds, i.e. testing and repair of

          sprinkler system, clean-up of driveways and entrances, etc.

    • Capable of performing basic maintenance work in the areas of filter change outs, plumbing,

          electrical, medical gas, HVAC, and painting with minimal supervision.

    • Employs basic trouble shooting skills in order to isolate systems and equipment when

          problems exist to warrant such action.

    • Assists Unlicensed and Licensed Engineer positions in repair and maintenance tasks.

    Communication – 20%

    • Maintains effective communication with department management.

    Safety and Team Building – 20%

    • Helps develop an attitude for team building and cooperation within the facility and

          department.

    • Performs duties in a safe, functional and effective manner that reduces hazards and risks,

    prevents accidents and injuries and maintains safe conditions by adhering to establish safety

    standards.

    • Maintains a safe, clean, secure environment for staff and customers as evident by Safety and

          Infection Surveillance reports; analysis of Departmental Incident Reports; observations by

          Administrative Team.

    • Accepts on-call schedule and performs other duties as assigned.

    Other duties as assigned. 

    Qualifications

    Required

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Fire Card.

    Preferred

    • 1 - 3 years’ experience as a Maintenance Technician in a hospital or hotel setting.
    • Vocational/Technical School Training.
