Description
A metal manufacturing organization in the northwest suburbs is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Lead / Shop Floater to support machine reliability and daily shop-floor operations. This role is ideal for someone with strong machine maintenance experience who can also step in across manufacturing functions as production needs change.
Employment Type: Direct Hire
Location: Elgin IL 60123
Schedule: 1st Shift, Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM
Pay: $28 to $32 per hour, based on experience
Responsibilities:
- Inspect machinery and equipment to ensure safe, reliable operation
- Perform preventive maintenance inspections (PMIs) according to established schedules
- Troubleshoot and repair production machinery and shop equipment
- Support maintenance activities that minimize downtime and keep operations moving
- Fill in across a variety of shop-floor positions as needed
- Follow workplace safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area
- Read and interpret shop drawings and use basic math for maintenance and production tasks
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or training in machine shop, wood shop, or metal shop preferred
- At least five years of experience in a metal fabrication, welding, tool and die, or similar manufacturing environment
- Hands-on machine repair and maintenance experience, including PMIs
- Strong mechanical aptitude, communication skills, and basic math ability
- Ability to read shop drawings
- Trade school training or a two-year technical degree is a plus
- Prior lead or supervisory experience and bilingual Spanish/English skills are preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, handle materials, and work around machinery throughout the shift
- Ability to lift up to
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a manufacturing environment with noise, vibration, temperature changes, and other typical shop conditions
