2nd Shift Maintenance Supervisor

Our client is a long-established Chicago-based consumer/food product manufacturer with more than a century of success producing iconic household brands distributed throughout North America and global markets. As they continue to invest in manufacturing technology and operational improvements, they are seeking an experienced 2nd Shift Maintenance Supervisor to lead maintenance operations within a high-volume production environment.

Job Description

  • Supervise, coach, and develop a team of approximately 15 union and non-union maintenance technicians.
  • Lead daily maintenance activities across production and packaging operations on 2nd shift.
  • Ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of highly automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and support resolution of complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and controls-related issues.
  • Coordinate preventive and predictive maintenance programs to maximize equipment up time.
  • Partner closely with production, engineering, quality, and plant leadership to support operational objectives.
  • Train and mentor technicians on troubleshooting techniques, safety practices, and maintenance best practices.
  • Manage labor allocation, work prioritization, and maintenance planning activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, GMP, OSHA, and company safety standards.
  • Support root cause analysis efforts and implement corrective actions to improve equipment reliability.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance documentation, work orders, and performance metrics.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and capital project initiatives.

The Successful Applicant

  • 5+ years of maintenance leadership experience within a highly automated food manufacturing environment or a similar high-speed, high-volume, regulated manufacturing facility.
  • Prior hands-on electro-mechanical maintenance experience with proven ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial production equipment, automation systems, conveyors, motors, drives, pneumatics, hydraulics, and electrical controls.
  • Experience leading and supervising unionized maintenance personnel.
  • Demonstrated success developing, training, and mentoring maintenance technicians.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to balance hands-on technical support with front-line leadership responsibilities.

Preferred:

  • Bachelors Degree in a technical field/manufacturing driven field
