The Public Works Department is currently recruiting for two (2) Maintenance Specialists to join the Streets Division. This is a non-exempt position, represented by the Local 39 IUOE union. The work schedule is Monday - Thursday, 5:30 AM - 4:00 PM, and this position must be willing to participate in the on-call rotation after successfully completing probation.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License and have strong experience in all aspects of crack sealing, including routing, blowing, squeegeeing, and properly operating the wand on a crack seal machine. They should be confident and experienced in concrete, asphalt, and storm drain maintenance, and be comfortable operating and troubleshooting all of our department's equipment. This position will serve as the lead on jobs when the Senior Maintenance Worker is unavailable, so the candidate must be dependable, confident making decisions, and able to lead a crew.
Under the supervision of the Streets Operations Supervisor, the Maintenance Specialist for the Streets Division performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled troubleshooting, maintenance, modification and repair work in assigned maintenance operations areas such as parks, landscape and lighting, facilities, service center, traffic signs and streets/drainage, park grounds, outdoor facilities, trails, traffic signs and streets/drainage, recreational and water facilities; maintains complex systems and performs specialized work on systems and facilities such as traffic signs, street lighting systems, irrigation systems, vehicle and equipment service and maintenance, pest and weed control and electrical systems; and performs related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the experienced-journey level of the field maintenance class. Incumbents are primarily responsible for performing skilled work in a specific area of expertise requiring special licenses and/or certification for a preponderance of the time. Assignments may be department-wide or restricted to a specific facility, park or section and incumbents may be assigned to both monitor and coordinate installation, maintenance and repair work in their occupational specialty and to perform general trade and maintenance activities as a crew member under direction of a Senior Maintenance Worker or Maintenance Supervisor. The class is distinguished from the Maintenance Worker I/II in that the latter performs a variety of semi-skilled field maintenance work that does not require certification. The Maintenance Specialist is distinguished from the higher level Senior Maintenance Worker by the latters primary responsibility to act as lead person for field maintenance crews.

Education:
High School diploma, GED equivalent, or the equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade.
Experience:
One (1) year of full-time experience as a Maintenance Worker II with the City of Folsom.
OR
Two (2) years of full-time experience performing general maintenance and cleaning of grounds, parks, streets maintenance and/or other facilities.

At the option of the City, persons hired into this class may be required to either possess at entry or obtain within specified time limits, designated licenses, certificates or specialized education and training relevant to the area of assignment. Additional requirements may include, but are not limited to the following:
Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in a typical outdoor environment on a year-round basis. (1) Mobility: frequent performance of heavy manual labor; frequent standing or driving for long period of time; frequent climbing, bending, stooping, crawling, and squatting. (2) Lifting: frequent lifting up to 50 pounds; occasional lifting up to 100 pounds. (3) Vision: constant use of overall vision. (4) Dexterity: frequent grasping, holding, and reaching. (5) Hearing/Talking: frequent hearing and talking in person. (6) Emotional/Psychological: frequent coworker contact; occasional working alone. (7) Environmental: frequent exposure to loud noise; frequent exposure to chemicals, fumes, and other environmental substances.
Other Requirements:
Must be willing to work weekends and holidays. Depending on assigned department, must be willing to work on-call as scheduled and emergencies outside of work.
