Definition

Under general supervision performs work of moderate difficulty as a semi-skilled worker in the installation, maintenance and repair of municipal facilities and equipment; and performs related work as required.

Starting hourly rate | $23.42 6 Months | $23.81

Examples Of Duties

Makes routine repairs on plumbing, electrical and utility fixtures in buildings or on grounds; replaces faucets, valves and fixtures; rewires switches and lamps; repairs boilers, air conditioners and space heating units.

Makes periodic inspections of facilities to identify needed repairs; monitors the operation of equipment and fixtures.

Fabricates partitions, structures and displays using hand and power tools; performs general facility installation, painting, cleaning, maintenance and repair work as required.

Performs manual labor required in excavation, clearing, snow removal, construction or grounds maintenance; keeps accurate records of materials used and work performed.

Qualifications

Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Two (2) years of experience in building or facilities maintenance, construction, or semi-skilled trade such as electrical, carpentry, or plumbing; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the required work in this position.

Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain throughout duration of employment.

Must pass a background check and physical as prescribed by the City of Davenport.

Must reside in Iowa or Illinois within two (2) years of hire and maintain residency throughout the duration of employment.

Knowledge and Skills

Considerable Knowledge of:

Types and uses of tools, materials and equipment used in construction and maintenance work.

Techniques and procedures of routine mechanical, electrical, plumbing, grounds care, painting, carpentry, masonry and other craft work.

Occupational hazards and safety precautions.

Considerable Skill in:

Understanding and following written and verbal instructions.

Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with associates and the public.

Working Skill in:

Keeping records of work performed, and time and materials used.

Performing work under adverse weather conditions.

Operating and caring for the tools needed in maintenance work.
