Description

The Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission (PVSC), a large publicly-owned wastewater treatment facility located in Newark, New Jersey, is currently seeking a Maintenance Scheduler / Planner. Created in 1902, PVSC is the 5th largest facility of its kind in the United States, directly serving approximately 1.5 million residents in 48 municipalities located in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic and Union Counties. The 140-acre plant is designed to treat an average of 330 million gallons per day (‘mgd”) of wastewater with an annual average flow of approximately 241 mgd.

 

Position Summary: The Maintenance Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Scheduler/Planner is responsible for the oversight and effective execution of the work control processes involved in the installation, testing, troubleshooting and repair of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, as well as other instrumentation and electrical systems utilized in the wastewater field. Will plan long range SCADA, instrumentation, and electrical projects, schedule and inspect work performed by SCADA technicians and electricians, provide technical assistance to PVSC engineers with regards to SCADA, instrumentation and electrical systems, and diagnose and troubleshoot equipment problems.  The Scheduler/Planner will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records and preparing concise written reports regarding the status of projects, and for assisting PVSC engineers with the inspection and managing of contract work related to SCADA, instrumentation and electrical systems. 

Job Responsibilities

Requirements: Must have knowledge of the principals of drafting conventions (projections, symbols, layout, lettering, etc.), including knowledge of drafting and CAD practices, in order to read and interpret drawings. Must have knowledge of typical construction, HVAC, pumping, process machinery, operation and maintenance activities involving a wastewater treatment plant. The ability to organize assigned technical engineering work and develop effective work methods, analyze, interpret and evaluate engineering problems and apply appropriate solutions, and apply engineering principles and techniques to work assignments is necessary. Must possess the theoretical knowledge and skills needed to oversee the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, documentation and repair of a wide variety of industrial instrumentation and SCADA system software.  Must have experience in programmable logic controllers (PLC). Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position. Must be able to express ideas clearly and listen effectively to the ideas of others.

 

 

Qualifications

Experience and Education: An associates degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school in an engineering-related field is preferred.  Certificate in computer-aided design using AutoCAD is also preferred.  A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience as an Engineering Technician/CAD Operator is required.    

 

Physical Demands: Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation to ensure the health and safety of oneself and others is maintained. To perform the essential functions of this position the employee must be able to sit, stand, walk, stoop, climb (including ladders), kneel, lift up to 25 lbs., carry, reach, push, pull, minor use of tools, use a keyboard, as well as have hearing and visual acuity. Must qualify for and possess the ability to perform entry into confined spaces while wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE) such as, but not limited to, canister and dust masks, as well as self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), in compliance with PVSC's Facial Hair Grooming Policy.

 

Working Conditions: Workers are employed in conditions associated with a wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection and may be required to work indoors and outdoors.

The expected base pay rate range for this position is between $85,921 to $154,438 annually. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, qualifications, education, training, and formal credentials.
