    Maintenance Process Technician – Job Roles and Responsibilities

    Role Summary

    The Maintenance Process Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving production equipment and manufacturing processes to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role works closely with Maintenance, Process Engineering, Production, Quality, and HSE teams to minimize downtime, improve equipment performance, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on production equipment and manufacturing systems.
    • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control-related equipment issues.
    • Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns and production interruptions to minimize downtime and restore equipment to reliable operation.
    • Partner with Process Engineers and Production teams to identify equipment and process issues and implement sustainable solutions.
    • Support equipment start-ups, installations, commissioning, modifications, and process improvements.
    • Analyze recurring equipment failures and perform root cause analysis to eliminate repeat breakdowns.
    • Support Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) strategies and continuous improvement activities to increase equipment reliability and availability.
    • Execute preventive maintenance tasks according to established schedules and ensure accurate completion of work orders.
    • Identify opportunities to improve machine performance, cycle time, equipment reliability, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
    • Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment history, and documentation in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
    • Assist with developing and updating standard operating procedures, maintenance instructions, troubleshooting guides, and equipment documentation.
    • Work with equipment vendors and contractors to troubleshoot complex equipment issues and support equipment improvements.
    • Maintain proper inventory and availability of critical spare parts, tools, and maintenance materials.
    • Provide technical support and knowledge transfer to other maintenance technicians and production personnel.
    • Train and mentor less-experienced technicians on equipment operation, troubleshooting, maintenance practices, and safe work procedures.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support production targets while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and reliability.

    • Take ownership of assigned equipment, maintenance activities, and corrective actions from identification through completion.
    • Complete preventive maintenance and work orders accurately and on schedule.
    • Follow through on identified problems and ensure permanent corrective actions are implemented.
    • Maintain high standards of workmanship and equipment reliability.
    • Be accountable for the quality, safety, and effectiveness of completed maintenance work.

    Collaboration and Teamwork

    • Work effectively with Maintenance Technicians, Senior Technicians, Process Engineers, Production, Quality, and HSE teams.
    • Share technical knowledge and best practices with team members.
    • Support a culture where employees work together to solve problems and achieve common goals.
    • Communicate equipment issues, risks, and improvement opportunities clearly and professionally.

    Innovation and Continuous Improvement

    • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, maintainability, safety, and production efficiency.
    • Use data, equipment history, downtime information, and root cause analysis to drive improvement.
    • Participate in Lean, Six Sigma, RCM, and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Recommend process and equipment modifications that reduce downtime, maintenance costs, and recurring failures.
    • Challenge existing processes and seek innovative solutions to improve overall equipment performance.

    Quality and Operational Excellence

    • Perform maintenance work to established engineering, quality, and safety standards.
    • Ensure equipment is returned to production in a safe, reliable, and properly functioning condition.
    • Support quality investigations involving equipment or process-related issues.
    • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure maintenance activities meet established standards.

    Professional Development

    • Continuously develop technical knowledge and skills through training and hands-on experience.
    • Stay current with new technologies, equipment, controls, automation, and maintenance best practices.
    • Support cross-training and knowledge-sharing among maintenance personnel.
    • Demonstrate a willingness to learn, adapt, and take on new responsibilities as business needs evolve.
