Maintenance Planner

Situated on the west bank of the Hudson River in West Haverstraw, NY, the Bowline Point Generating Station comprises two dual-fuel natural gas and oil-fired boilers, along with two GE steam turbine units, providing a combined capacity of 1100 megawatts. The plant has been a significant source of electricity for the region and has undergone upgrades to meet environmental regulations, ensuring its continued role in maintaining grid stability.

Opportunity Summary

The Maintenance Planner at Bowline Point Generating Station plans, schedules, and coordinates maintenance activities to support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. This role manages weekly maintenance and outage planning, administers the Maximo CMMS, coordinates parts and materials, oversees contractors, and supports equipment reliability. The position works closely with Operations, Maintenance, plant management, suppliers, and OEMs and serves as a backup supervisor as needed.

Your scope of responsibility as Maintenance Planner includes the following primary functions:

Planning & Scheduling

• Develop and manage preventive, corrective, and long-term maintenance plans for critical plant equipment, including turbines, generators, condensers, and associated systems.
• Plan and schedule major outages, establish work priorities, allocate resources, and track execution using Microsoft Project.
• Manage weekly maintenance schedules and coordinate labor, contractors, materials, equipment availability, and operational requirements.
• Lead planning meetings with plant management and other stakeholders to align maintenance priorities, schedules, and resource needs.
• Develop detailed job plans and assist with scopes of work for Requests for Information (RFIs) and Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
• Establish maintenance priorities and contingency plans for forced outages and other emergent work to support rapid response and minimize downtime.

Maintenance & Reliability

• Administer the plant’s Maximo CMMS, maintaining accurate maintenance data, work histories, schedules, and reports to support planning and reliability improvements.
• Manage preventive maintenance programs and perform or coordinate equipment inspections based on operating conditions and duty cycles.
• Partner with Operations to establish safe work conditions, equipment isolations, and clearances for planned maintenance.
• Coordinate and oversee onsite contractors to ensure work meets safety, quality, scope, and schedule requirements.
• Support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and reliability-centered maintenance initiatives to identify recurring equipment issues and improve long-term performance.
• Support maintenance of high-voltage electrical systems and perform or coordinate control loop tuning to improve equipment and process performance.

Procurement, Inventory & Budget

• Obtain vendor quotes, prepare purchase requisitions, and coordinate procurement of parts, materials, and services.
• Maintain appropriate levels of critical spare parts and consumables and work with suppliers and OEMs to ensure availability of parts and technical support.
• Assist with developing and monitoring maintenance budgets to support cost-effective execution without compromising safety, quality, or reliability.

Leadership, Training & Documentation

• Serve as backup supervisor as needed, providing oversight of plant operations and maintenance activities to support safe and continuous operations.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, performance metrics, and reports for management review.
• Support training and development of Mechanical and IC&E personnel and maintain applicable procedures, training materials, and maintenance documentation.
• Maintain required Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) qualifications and support ongoing LOTO training and compliance.

Working Relationships

The Maintenance Planner reports to the Maintenance Manager and works closely with plant management, contractors, and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to coordinate maintenance support and promote safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.

Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.

Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.  

Work Schedule

The Maintenance Planner works a standard Monday to Friday day-shift schedule. This position will require extended hours, flexible shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call availability as needed to support plant operations and business needs.

Compensation

This position offers a base pay rate ranging from $60 to $75 per hour, along with eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

Operational Expertise and Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or certification in Power Plant Technology, Process Operations, or a related field preferred.
• Must hold a valid TWIC card or be able to obtain one within a designated timeframe.
• Extensive experience in power generation or industrial plant environments, with expertise in maintaining and operating complex systems such as turbines, generators, HRSGs, and high-voltage equipment.
• Skilled in developing and implementing maintenance schedules for industrial equipment, including turbines and generators, based on operational needs and manufacturer guidelines.
• Proven experience in planning and scheduling major maintenance projects using Microsoft Project or similar software to create detailed plans, allocate resources, and track progress.
• Proficient in using CMMS (especially Maximo) to streamline workflows, manage work orders, and optimize maintenance practices for improved reliability.
• Strong understanding of high-voltage electrical systems, including generators, switchgear, and transformers, ensuring safe and efficient power distribution.
• Experience in managing maintenance budgets to optimize costs while upholding safety and quality standards.
• Proven leader in reliability improvement projects with experience in providing technical training and developing staff skills in mechanical, electrical, and IC&E disciplines.
• Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
