Job Description

The Maintenance Planner – Operations will plan and schedule ongoing maintenance and preventive maintenance activities for plant equipment, machinery, buildings, and facilities. The role will receive maintenance requests, prioritize work, coordinate maintenance personnel, support repair and preventive maintenance activities, and ensure the required parts, materials, tools, and resources are available.

The position will also provide technical support to skilled trades personnel, coordinate maintenance-related purchasing, monitor inventory, support machine uptime initiatives, and participate in engineering projects related to plant equipment and facilities.

Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and schedule preventive and ongoing maintenance for plant equipment, machinery, buildings, and facilities.
  • Receive maintenance requests from throughout the facility and prioritize work based on operational requirements.
  • Assign maintenance work to non-skilled, semi-skilled, and skilled maintenance personnel.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities involving mechanics, toolmakers, pipe fitters, tool grinders, machine hands, and other skilled trades.
  • Provide technical support to skilled trades personnel by obtaining drawings, reviewing procedures, and identifying required parts, equipment, and tools.
  • Identify suppliers, obtain quotes, and issue purchase orders for repair parts, spare parts, materials, and maintenance services.
  • Provide daily work direction to maintenance personnel and may provide supervision when required.
  • Generate maintenance and operational reports as needed.
    Track crib and self-help stock usage and inventory levels to maintain appropriate inventory and support cost-reduction efforts.
  • Coordinate the creation and updating of preventive maintenance reports.
  • Support initiatives designed to improve machine uptime and maintenance effectiveness.
  • Ensure maintenance activities support applicable OSHA and ANSI standards.
  • Participate in engineering services projects supporting the maintenance and operation of facilities and equipment.
  • Analyze machine failures and perform or coordinate overhauls, dismantling, adjustments, alignment, fitting, and general repairs.
  • Inspect machines, machine tools, and mechanical equipment and document equipment conditions and future repair requirements.
  • Plan work sequences and obtain the necessary tools and equipment to complete assigned maintenance activities.
  • Work from engineering prints, manufacturer instructions, sketches, and other technical documentation.
  • Overhaul and rebuild complex machines, machine tools, and mechanical equipment.
  • Produce new or replacement machine parts using appropriate machine tools while maintaining close tolerances.
  • Work with 240V/480V electrical systems.

Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Strong machine maintenance and repair experience.
  • Ability to analyze machine failures and identify required repairs.
  • Experience dismantling, rebuilding, aligning, adjusting, and repairing machinery and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to work with precision measuring instruments and maintain close tolerances.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering prints, sketches, and manufacturer instructions.
  • Ability to identify machine parts, tools, equipment, and replacement components.
  • Experience with standard maintenance tools and precision measuring equipment.
  • Knowledge of grinders, lathes, planers, shapers, drill presses, hoists, cranes, jacks, rollers, and related equipment.
  • Ability to fit and align gears, shafts, wheels, motors, pulleys, and other mechanical components.
  • Ability to inspect equipment and determine repair requirements.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and ladder logic.
  • Experience troubleshooting 240V/480V electrical systems.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Strong commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.

 

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Preventive maintenance planning and scheduling experience.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing or industrial plant operations.
  • Experience with machine rebuilding and precision alignment.
  • Experience supporting skilled trades and maintenance teams.
  • Experience with maintenance inventory, crib stock, and spare-parts management.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and ANSI standards.
  • Experience participating in engineering or facilities-related maintenance projects.

 

Education & Experience

  • Previous experience performing machine maintenance, repair, overhaul, rebuilding, and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Experience working with mechanical equipment, machine tools, and industrial machinery.
  • Experience reading technical prints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer instructions.
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical systems, including 240V/480V systems.
