Position Summary

Salary: $33.64 - $38.43 hourly depending on experience.  MSU Benefits - Free comprehensive health care for you and your family as well as a 10% contribution toward your retirement; Generous sick, vacation, personal and holiday time; Not eligible to work a remote schedule  Regular in-person attendance is required to meet business and customer needs. 

This position will ill analyze and perform preventive maintenance, repair, and install pumps (centrifugal and positive displacement, domestic water, chilled water, vacuum pumps, hot water heat, sump pump, condensate and glycol), compressors (screw, rotary, hi and low pressure, oil free, scroll), door openers, filters, incinerators, air dryers, dock levelers, hydraulic systems, piping fixtures, swimming pools, etc; Lubricate and service equipment. Cuts, threads, and bends pipe, using hacksaw, pipe cutters, cutting torch, threading machine, and pipe bending machine; Assemble and disassemble rigging; Assembles, installs, and tests a variety of metal and non-metal pipe and fittings, including brass, copper, steel, and plastic; operates pipe cutters, pipe threaders, hack saws, drill presses, impact drills, sound detectors, soldering equipment, and hand tools. Erects and works from ladders, scaffolding, swing stages, boom trucks, and similar devices. This position will also needs working electrical knowledge. Requisitions materials and parts. Interprets blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and job specifications.  Estimates time and materials to be used on the job.  Prepares records and service reports of job time and materials expended. Customer contact. 

Breakdown of job responsibilities are as follows:
30%  Analyze, perform preventive maintenance to, repair, pump systems and air compressors. 
30%  Respond to trouble calls. Respond to pump leaks, air leaks and a variety of other problems
15%  Cut, thread, and bend pipe, using hacksaw, pipe cutters, cutting torch, threading machine, and pipe bending machine. 
15%  Assemble, install, and test a variety of metal and non-metal pipe and fittings, including brass, copper, steel and plastic. 
10%  Correspondence through email, training, meetings and professional development.

Minimum Requirements

• Completion of a high school education or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
• Successful completion of an applicable trade-specific Trades Helper program, or completion of an approved apprenticeship program, or an associate degree, or equivalent education/experience.  
• Five years’ experience in the trade that includes: 
• Two years of experience in commercial Pump/Air installation, maintenance and troubleshooting and demonstrated ability to independently perform the duties and responsibilities of the classification, or equivalent education/experience.
• Must pass an assessment to receive progression step increases at and after the 18-month mark.
• Expert knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of the trade.
• Expert knowledge of applicable building codes, rules, and regulations (local, state and federal).
• Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license.
• Furnish own tools.
• Frequent lifting of 26 to 75 pounds and occasional lifting of over 75 pounds.

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge of HVAC systems; knowledge of electrical systems; experience with Microsoft Office products, ability to use the Internet to look up parts for various pieces of equipment, experience in customer contact, ability to work well in a team setting, ability to interact with building occupants provide an outstanding Spartan Experience (customer service), ability to estimate materials to be used on the job.

NON-STANDARD/VARIABLE WORK HOURS: Monday through Friday, first shift - 8 hours and may require after-hours, weekend and holiday work.

Summary of Physical Demands

Duties associated with this position involve lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds, pushing/pulling, and climbing ladder, stairs, and working from various types of equipment, including scaffolding.
