Description

Job Title: Maintenance Journeyman (3rd Shift)
Location: Leeds, AL 35094
Pay rate: $34.31 - $38.95/hr
Work schedule: 3rd Shift | 9:00 PM - 5:30 AM, Sunday through Thursday.

  • Overtime Requirements: Friday overtime is required as scheduled. Must remain flexible to work additional overtime and non-standard hours during emergencies that threaten facility safety or production continuity. Regular, predictable onsite attendance is an essential function of this role.

Overview

The Maintenance Journeyman troubleshoots, diagnoses, installs, and repairs complex electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic industrial equipment. Operating independently within a high-voltage manufacturing environment, this position ensures operational uptime by maintaining power distribution systems, motor control circuits, and PLC hardware/software. The role requires strong mechanical reasoning, strict attention to detail, and a collaborative approach to managing work orders and parts requisition.

Job Specifications

Key Responsibilities

  • Electrical Diagnostics & Wiring: Troubleshoot and repair AC & DC motors and dedicated control circuits. Wire manufacturing equipment and establish electrical drops safely within high-voltage zones.

  • Systems Maintenance: Maintain 480/240 Volt 3-phase Motor Control Centers (MCC) and facility power distribution systems.

  • PLC & Controls Support: Install, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Distributed Control System (DCS) hardware, software, and localized controls.

  • Component Replacement: Rebuild and replace critical electrical control devices, including limit switches, proximity sensors, photo switches, and automated pneumatic or hydraulic valves.

  • Technical Blueprint Literacy: Read and accurately interpret electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, and instrumentation drawings, schematic diagrams, and manufacturer technical manuals.

  • Equipment Rigging & Installation: Safely move, position, align, and set up industrial production equipment as required by facility layout changes.

  • Tool & Inventory Management: Properly utilize specialized hand tools, power tools, hoists, cranes, alignment machinery, and testing equipment. Research and requisition necessary replacement parts and materials utilizing vendor catalogs and commercial contacts.

  • Work Order Administration: Utilize basic computer skills to look up, track, and update internal work orders and input material metrics.

Must Have Skills / Requirements

  • Industrial Experience: 5+ years of dedicated industrial maintenance experience specifically within a manufacturing or production plant setting.

  • Mechanical Aptitude & Reasoning: Advanced capability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve systemic operational faults on automated equipment under time constraints.

  • Mathematical Proficiency: Strong foundational math skills, including fluency with addition, subtraction, multiplication, decimals, and fractional dimensions.

  • Language Skills: Full capability to communicate clearly in English (written and verbal) to effectively document issues and discuss technical needs with coworkers and customers.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)

  • Prior professional experience using precision measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, and tape measures.

  • Possession of an official Journeyman’s card in a related industrial trade.

Education & Experience

  • Experience: 5+ years of industrial manufacturing maintenance experience required.

  • Education: Associate’s Degree, trade school diploma, technical school certification, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience is required.
