    PROGRAM SUMMARY:

    Volunteers of America is a federal and stated funded comprehensive early childhood education program with a focus on child development that includes a child's cognitive, physical and social emotional growth and development. The program fosters Family Engagement in all areas of a child's development and provides comprehensive resources to low income families in the areas of health, nutrition and community resources.

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Under the direct supervision of the Associate Director of EHS, the Maintenance II will perform a variety of general maintenance work to maintain facilities at various locations. Responsibilities include janitorial duties such as emptying trash, dusting, sweeping and mopping floors, washing walls, cleaning restrooms, cleaning offices, vacuuming carpets, cleaning windows, cleaning playgrounds, painting, repairs, floor striping and buffing, landscaping and other maintenance.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    The duties below are intended to provide an overview of the duties required of a Maintenance II employee.

    • Adhere to Volunteers of America Policy and Procedures.
    • Upkeep of all buildings, playgrounds and parking lots for the sites.
    • Maintain equipment in proper working conditions.
    • Paint, surface repair, and/ or touch up interior and exterior of building.
    • Repair lights, vacuum cleaners and classroom equipment.
    • Maintain cleanliness of all buildings inside and out.
    • Wash windows and screens on a periodic basis.
    • Help unload and store groceries and supplies
    • Build new equipment as needed such as shelving, cubbies, tables, bikes etc.
    • Responsible for keeping maintenance room and tool shed in neat order at all times.
    • Responsible for advising Associate Director of all safety hazards.
    • Travels and/or transports materials to other sites as needed.
    • Perform any other duties as assigned to create and maintain quality facilities.

    Qualifications, Education and Experience:

    • High School Diploma or G.E.D and one to three (1 to 3) years of relevant experience.
    • Meet State licensing approval, having no criminal record.
    • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with vendors and staff.
    • Must have the ability to comprehend and implement instructions.
    • Must be of sound and mature judgment in order to quickly make sound judgments.
    • Ability to read and follow the facilities policies and procedures regarding general responsibilities.
    • Knowledge and experience with heating and ventilation systems, electricity, carpentry, metal, safety and inspection.
