    JOB GOAL: This position will maintain the facilities exterior appearance by mowing, trimming, fertilizing and spraying of the lawns, trees, flowers and shrubs. This position does removal of snow and ice from the sidewalks, stairs, ramps, parking lots and driveways by plowing, shoveling, sweeping and applying de-icing products to maintain a safe and functional facility. This position schedules, performs, records and updates all the maintenance requirements of the grounds and fleet equipment. Incumbent may work variable shifts with some rotational work on Saturdays and/or Sundays. This position maintains and distributes district inventory of custodial supplies and paper.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Provide lawn and grounds care using the following equipment: commercial lawn mowers, hand mowers, weed whip, chainsaw, Bobcat, Tool Cat, rakes and other power tools.
    • Conduct horticultural activities - including watering plants, weeding beds, tree pruning and landscape planting.
    • Perform snow removal activities using powered and hand equipment. Plow, bloom, shovel, scrape and haul snow and ice from sidewalks, roadways, steps and parking lots.
    • Eliminate snow and ice from above doorway entrances.
    • Remove litter and debris from lawns, sidewalks, roads, stadium facility and trash receptacles.
    • Arrange furniture and equipment.
    • Inventory and delivery of supplies (e.g. custodial and reams of paper) to all district sites.
    • Change room arrangements, common areas and equipment for routine and special events.
    • Perform last minute tasks for faculty in educational and extra-curricular activities.
    • Observe buildings and grounds for safety concerns. Take steps to resolve unsafe conditions and report needs for attention to supervisor.
    • Ascertain that any district building is locked and secured during non-open hours.
    • Shut water off in heating and domestic waterline loops in emergencies. Locates and switch electrical breakers off in emergencies.
    • Monitor mechanical equipment to assure it is functioning properly and shut equipment down if problems occur.
    • Read and respond to material safety data sheets as needed.
    • Strip, mop and wash floors using manual and power floor care equipment as required.
    • Conduct restorative and general carpet conditioning and maintenance.
    • Perform all other duties as assigned or required.
    • Communicates effectively and in a timely manner with all stakeholders through oral, written and electronic means.
    • Attend work regularly.
