Summary:
The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining district grounds for compliance with the standards established by the New Mexico Public Schools Facility Authority (PSFA) Facilities Maintenance Assessment Report (FMAR). Tasks are accomplished through adherence to the "Grounds Schedule of Tasks" for each season's required tasks, through direct collaboration with the Buildings & Construction Coordinator regarding outsourced contractor services for athletic fields and through the seasonal use of day laborers as approved by the Maintenance Supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Cuts lawns using hand mower or power mower
- Trims and edges around walkways, flowerbeds and walls, using clippers, week cutters and edging tools
- Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged leaves, branches, or twigs, using shears, pruner or chain saw
- Spray lawn, shrubs and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides, using hand or automatic sprayer
- Rakes and bags leaves
- Cleans ground and removes litter
- Shovels snow from walkways and driveways. Spreads salt on public passage ways
- Plants grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs
- Water lawns and shrubs
- Repair fences, gates, walls, and walks
- Paint fences and outbuildings
- Clean out drainage ditches and culverts
- Sharpen tools such as week cutters, edging tools and shears
- Make minor repairs on equipment
- Perform variety of labor duties common to school environments
- Accept other responsibilities and duties assigned by supervisor
- Support district and school efforts to keep CCSD safe and secure
- Complete and comply with all required trainings annually
- Adhere to NM Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession (NMAC 6.60.9.8)
- Other duties as assigned, reasonably related to the position
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Dine language, culture, and history preferred
- Good communication skills and customer service skills
Physical/Job Requirements:
Physical ability to do manual work for at least 8 hours per day. Sitting, standing, driving, bending, stooping, kneeling and lifting, climbing ladders, lifting from floor to mid-thigh maximum (70lbs) occasionally. Lifting from mid-thigh to shoulder maximum (60 lbs.) Lifting from mid-thigh to shoulder maximum (60 lbs.) Lifting from shoulder to overhead (0 lbs.), carrying maximum 75lbs. Work overhead, work in tight areas, able to work off ladders and to work at floor level (on knees). Hand/eye coordination, normal range of sight. Ability to move and operate equipment related to maintenance. Ability to operate hand and power tools.
Safety and Health:
