The Maintenance Associate supports the daily care, repair, and upkeep of Antilles School’s campus and facilities. This role helps ensure that learning and work environments across the School remain safe, clean, functional, and well maintained for students, employees, and families. Working under the supervision of the Director of Facilities, the Maintenance Associate performs general maintenance, preventative maintenance, and basic repairs across campus systems, equipment, and grounds.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities below include core (essential) functions of the role, integral to the daily operation and success of the School’s facilities and campus environment.

  • Performs general plumbing, carpentry, painting, and basic electrical repairs to school facilities, fixtures, and equipment within the scope of the role.
  • Inspects, troubleshoots, and addresses maintenance issues involving classrooms, offices, restrooms, walkways, doors, windows, lighting, and other campus systems.
  • Completes preventative maintenance and routine repair work that does not require a specialized licensed technician.
  • Supports the upkeep and cleanliness of buildings, grounds, and shared spaces as needed to maintain a safe and functional campus.
  • Assists with set-up, breakdown, and operational support for school events, meetings, and activities, as assigned.
  • Uses hand tools, power tools, ladders, and maintenance equipment safely and appropriately in accordance with established safety practices.
  • Monitors facilities for repair needs, safety concerns, and maintenance priorities and communicates issues promptly to the Director of Facilities.
  • Maintains inventory of maintenance, repair, and cleaning supplies and alerts the supervisor when materials need to be reordered.
  • Responds to work orders and day-to-day maintenance requests in a timely, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Supports hurricane preparation, storm recovery, and other campus operational needs, as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in general maintenance, facilities, construction, custodial support, or a related field preferred.
  • Working knowledge of general building repair, maintenance practices, and workplace safety procedures.
  • Ability to follow instructions, work independently when appropriate, and collaborate effectively with supervisors and team members.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and basic maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
  • Strong organizational, time management, problem-solving, and task-prioritization skills.
  • Dependable, service-oriented, and responsive, with a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact professionally with students, employees, families, vendors, and visitors in a school environment.
  • Physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods; bend, climb ladders, and work in awkward spaces; and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to work on-site full time.
