Position Summary
The maintenance and grounds engineer performs general building maintenance, groundskeeping, and repair work to ensure facilities and outdoor areas are safe, clean, functional, and well maintained. This position works independently and as part of a team to support daily operations. Essential Functions
- Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs to buildings, equipment, and grounds.
- Complete preventive maintenance and respond to maintenance work orders in a timely manner.
- Perform basic plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and drywall repairs.
- Replace lighting, ceiling tiles, flooring, door hardware, and locks as needed.
- Maintain and repair sidewalks, parking lots, fences, signs, and exterior fixtures.
- Mow, trim, edge, fertilize, water, prune, and maintain lawns, trees, shrubs, and landscaped areas.
- Perform seasonal grounds maintenance, including leaf removal, spring and fall cleanup and irrigation system maintenance.
- Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, lawn equipment, tractors, skid loaders, utility vehicles, and other maintenance equipment.
- Assist with facility moves, room setups, furniture assembly, deliveries, and special event preparation.
- Monitor building systems and report equipment malfunctions or safety concerns.
- Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies, equipment, and materials.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Position Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED required.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds occasionally with assistance.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work indoors and outdoors.
- Ability to work occasional overtime, weekends, and respond to emergency maintenance or snow removal when needed.
- Other requirements:
- Basic knowledge of building maintenance plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and landscaping practices.
- Ability to safely operate maintenance and grounds equipment.
- Valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record.
- Computer skills: Ability to use email systems, word processing, and spreadsheet software
- Communication: ability to actively listen and to effectively communicate with others through written and oral communication
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Occasionally subjected to mechanical and electrical hazards, extreme temperatures, and humidity. Occasional exposure to fumes, dust, and cleaning chemicals. Moderate equipment noise at times. The job requires you to constantly stand, walk, and lift or carry ten pounds or less. Frequent bending, squatting, and kneeling throughout the workday.
