We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mainframe Engineer / Developer with specialized expertise in Fiserv core banking platforms. In this role, you will be the cornerstone of our core banking infrastructure, responsible for the design, development, maintenance, and optimization of our mainframe-based Fiserv applications. You will collaborate closely with business stakeholders, cross-functional engineering teams, and QA to ensure the stability, performance, and regulatory compliance of mission-critical financial systems.
Key Responsibilities
As a Mainframe professional specializing in Fiserv, your key responsibilities will include:
- Fiserv Platform Management: Oversee, maintain, and enhance mainframe-based Fiserv core banking applications (such as Fiserv Signature, Premier, or Cleartouch) to ensure optimal system performance and reliability.
- Software Development & Engineering: Design, code, test, and deploy complex software solutions and system modifications using COBOL, JCL, CICS, and DB2.
- System Upgrades & Implementation: Manage the rollout of new Fiserv product releases, patches, and system upgrades while ensuring zero disruption to daily banking operations.
- Batch Processing & Optimization: Monitor, execute, and troubleshoot daily, monthly, and year-end batch processing operations, making proactive adjustments to improve efficiency.
- Production Support: Provide Tier-2 and Tier-3 technical support, diagnosing and resolving critical incidents, abends, and system failures within established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with business analysts and project managers to translate complex banking requirements into technical specifications and actionable development plans.
- Quality Assurance & Testing: Conduct rigorous unit and integration testing on all mainframe developments, working alongside QA teams to ensure defect-free deployments.
- Compliance & Security: Ensure all mainframe developments and configurations strictly adhere to banking industry regulations, data privacy laws, and internal IT security policies.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- Fiserv Expertise: Minimum of 3 5+ years of hands-on experience working directly with Fiserv core banking systems on a mainframe architecture.
- Mainframe Proficiency: Deep technical knowledge of IBM Mainframe environments, including strong coding skills in COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, and DB2.
- Development Tools: Proficiency with standard mainframe tools such as ISPF, SDSF, File-AID, Xpediter, and Endevor (or similar version control systems).
- Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of financial services, retail banking workflows, and general ledger operations.
- Problem-Solving: Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Mainframe modernization initiatives, including API integration strategies (e.g., z/OS Connect, RESTful APIs).
- Familiarity with job scheduling tools such as Control-M, CA7, or similar enterprise schedulers.
- Working knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies within a mainframe development context.
- Familiarity with third-party financial software integrations surrounding the Fiserv ecosystem.
- Relevant Fiserv product training or IBM Mainframe certifications.
