CTG is seeking to fill a Mainframe Application Developer – COBOL / PL/I position for our client.

 

Location: Remote

Duration: 12 months

 

Duties:

  • Design, develop, enhance, test, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, PL/I, and CA Easytrieve.

  • Develop and support applications utilizing IMS DB/DC, DB2, VSAM, and CICS.

  • Develop and maintain JCL for complex batch-processing environments.

  • Manage and monitor production jobs using CA Jobtrac and support production scheduling activities.

  • Perform source-code and release management using Endevor.

  • Work extensively with z/OS, MVS, JES, ISPF, and SDSF in development and production environments.

  • Troubleshoot production issues and perform debugging using File-AID, Abend-AID, and Xpediter.

  • Analyze and resolve abends, perform root-cause analysis, and execute restart and recovery procedures.

  • Participate in requirements analysis, impact assessments, coding, testing, implementation, and deployment activities.

  • Support mainframe-to-distributed system integrations using SFTP, FTP, TCP/IP, REXEC, and middleware connectivity.

  • Design and maintain databases, develop SQL, support DB2 stored procedures, and perform DB2 performance tuning.

  • Support system modernization, application migration, infrastructure upgrades, and platform transition initiatives.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, participate in peer reviews, and provide knowledge transfer to team members.

  • Provide application performance analysis and optimization to improve reliability, efficiency, and system responsiveness.

  • Support testing for infrastructure and environment migrations, including disaster recovery validation.

  • Work with production support, change management, and incident resolution processes as needed.

  • Support applications and business processes associated with commercial oil and gas environments, including lease, contract, owner, division order, and accounting systems.

Skills:

  • Strong proficiency with PL/I, COBOL, and CA Easytrieve.

  • Hands-on experience with IMS DB/DC, DB2, VSAM, and CICS application development.

  • Advanced JCL development and complex batch-processing experience.

  • Experience with CA Jobtrac scheduling and production job monitoring.

  • Experience with Endevor source-code and release management.

  • Strong working knowledge of z/OS, MVS, JES, ISPF, and SDSF.

  • Production debugging experience with File-AID, Abend-AID, and Xpediter.

  • Strong understanding of abend resolution, root-cause analysis, restart, and recovery procedures.

  • Experience with requirements analysis, impact assessment, coding, testing, and deployment.

  • Knowledge of mainframe-to-distributed system integration technologies, including SFTP, FTP, TCP/IP, REXEC, and middleware connectivity.

  • Strong DB2 skills, including SQL development, stored procedures, database design, and performance tuning.

  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Familiarity with application modernization, migration, infrastructure upgrades, and platform transitions.

  • Ability to create clear technical documentation and participate effectively in peer reviews and knowledge transfer.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of professional mainframe application development experience preferred.

  • Extensive hands-on experience developing and supporting COBOL and/or PL/I applications in enterprise mainframe environments.

  • Experience supporting production applications, troubleshooting complex issues, and participating in on-call or production support processes.

  • Experience with SPUFI, QMF, and SAVRS is a plus.

  • Experience with SQL Server database analysis and troubleshooting is a plus.

  • Experience troubleshooting and supporting DB2 Connect is a plus.

  • Knowledge of mainframe security concepts, including ACF2, RACF, and user security administration, is a plus.

  • Experience with ServiceNow, Azure DevOps (ADO), change management, and production support processes is preferred.

  • Experience supporting infrastructure/environment migration testing and disaster recovery validation is preferred.

  • Experience with oil and gas commercial applications, including lease, contract, owner, division order, and accounting systems, is highly desirable.

  • Experience with application performance analysis and optimization is preferred.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field preferred.

  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience may be considered.

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $45.00 to $50.00/hour. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, market factors, and where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. In addition to salary, a competitive benefit package is also offered.
