    Highlights

This is a field-first leadership role: you'll direct a team of field mechanics who repair and maintain heavy equipment right on the jobsite rather than in a shop, set priorities as breakdowns and service needs come in, and coordinate with project teams so equipment issues get resolved without stalling work. You'll report to the Equipment Superintendent - North, who is your direct supervisor and the person you'll go to for cross-project priorities and support - but day to day, you'll coordinate directly with job superintendents and foremen on active projects, so equipment issues get resolved at the speed the jobsite needs.

    Description

Sargent is looking for an experienced Field Maintenance Foreman to lead equipment repair and support across our active jobsites throughout New England. This is a field-first leadership role: you'll direct a team of field mechanics who repair and maintain heavy equipment right on the jobsite rather than in a shop, set priorities as breakdowns and service needs come in, and coordinate with project teams so equipment issues get resolved without stalling work. You'll turn a wrench yourself when it counts - on the tough calls or when field capacity requires it - but day to day, you're managing people, priorities, and the response to field service calls across the region.

You'll report to the Equipment Superintendent - North, who is your direct supervisor and the person you'll go to for cross-project priorities and support - but day to day, you'll coordinate directly with job superintendents and foremen on active projects, so equipment issues get resolved at the speed the jobsite needs. You'll also work closely with the Shop Foreman - North, Dispatch, and OEM/dealer service partners to keep our crews running.

    What You'll Do

    • Direct field mechanics' daily assignments based on breakdown reports, service calls, and jobsite priorities across the North region.
    • Set priorities for field repairs against active project schedules, coordinating with project superintendents and operations managers so equipment downtime doesn't stall jobsite work.
    • Inspect and sign off on completed field repairs for quality, safety, and compliance.
    • Train and mentor field mechanics, building the team's technical capability and jobsite judgment over time.
    • Weigh in on hiring and performance decisions for field mechanics, alongside the Equipment Superintendent - North.
    • Coordinate with the Shop Foreman - North on jobs that cross between field and shop repair work, and with Dispatch on service-truck routing and scheduling.
    • Maintain field repair records and service histories, and report field service performance (response time, backlog, cost) up the chain.
    • Conduct regular jobsite visits to oversee repairs in progress and proactively inspect equipment for emerging issues before they become breakdowns.
    • Coordinate parts needs for field repairs, including stocking of field service trucks.
    • Work directly with OEM and dealer service reps on warranty work, technical support, and repairs beyond field capability, arranging shop or dealer transport when needed.
    • Enforce jobsite safety practices and OSHA/DOT compliance, including service-truck equipment and operation.
    • Communicate field service capacity, equipment status, and repair timelines to the Equipment Superintendent - North to support regional planning and rental decisions.

    What You Bring

    • High school diploma or GED.
    • 5+ years of experience as a heavy equipment or diesel mechanic, with field/mobile service work on hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine systems.
    • 3+ years in a lead mechanic, foreman, or supervisory role.
    • Valid driver's license; ability to travel regularly and independently between active jobsites throughout New England.
    • Comfort reading technical/service manuals, wiring diagrams, and hydraulic schematics.

    Nice to Have

    • Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
    • OEM technical certifications (Caterpillar, Cummins, Deere, Komatsu, Volvo, etc.).
    • Relevant ASE certification(s).
    • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30.
    • Prior experience in heavy civil or highway construction field service specifically, rather than shop-based or general fleet maintenance.

    Work Environment

Primarily outdoors on active construction jobsites, in all New England seasonal weather conditions, with regular exposure to heavy machinery, noise, and jobsite traffic. Requires lifting and carrying tools and parts (up to 50 lbs. regularly, more with mechanical or fellow employee-owner assistance), working in varied positions (standing, kneeling, overhead, and under equipment) for extended periods, and traveling independently between jobsites throughout the workday.

    About Sargent

Sargent has built infrastructure across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic since 1926, when founder Herbert E. Sargent started with a single dump truck in Alton, Maine. Nearly a century later, that same hands-on, get-it-done spirit drives a full-service heavy civil contractor working on airports, highways, landfills, renewable energy sites, and municipal infrastructure from Maine to Virginia and North Carolina.

In 2013, Sargent became 100% employee-owned. Today, more than 650 employee-owners share directly in the company's success - and have a real stake in how the work gets done.
