Turbomachinery Machinist – Contractor

Location: Tonawanda, NY
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $30-$36 an/hour

System One is seeking a Turbomachinery Machinist to support the manufacture, repair, and assembly of turbomachinery components. This position is primarily focused on manual machining, including lathes and mills, with the opportunity to support CNC machining based on experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform manual machining operations supporting the manufacture, repair, and assembly of turbomachinery components

• Set up and operate manual lathes, mills, drill presses, grinders, and other conventional machine tools

• Read and interpret technical drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and machining requirements

• Machine and modify components used in compressors, turbines, and related turbomachinery equipment

• Perform light machine assembly, fitting, alignment, and component preparation

• Support component repair, rework, fabrication, and inspection activities

• Use precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and indicators

• Perform CNC machining, setup, and/or programming based on experience and skill level

• Troubleshoot machining issues and ensure components meet quality requirements

• Work closely with assemblers, engineers, and production personnel to complete work safely and efficiently

Required Qualifications

• Previous machining experience in a manufacturing, repair, or industrial environment

• Hands-on experience with manual lathes and mills

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and machining tolerances

• Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment

• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform light assembly and fitting work

• Ability to independently set up equipment, troubleshoot machining issues, and produce quality parts

• Ability to safely handle industrial equipment, tooling, and turbomachinery components

Preferred Qualifications

• CNC machining experience

• CNC setup and/or programming experience

• Previous experience machining or repairing turbomachinery, compressors, turbines, or rotating equipment
