Machinist III (Vertical) - Second/Night Shift

Location: Ramsey, MN

Shift: 2nd Shift - 4:00 PM to 2:30 AM

Primary Objective of the Position:

The Machinist III is responsible for maintaining quality standards on CNC vertical, horizontal mills, and bridge mills. The role involves setting up and performing a wide range of machining operations using various machine tools, jigs, and fixtures. The Machinist III will also write programs for simple machining operations and must possess proficiency in geometric dimensioning, applying this skill to the machining of weldments.

Major Areas of Accountability:

  • Possess a good knowledge of all aspects of machining.
  • Diagnose problems in machining and tooling.
  • Interpret blueprints with GD&T.
  • Consistently follow standard work instructions and properly machine products as defined by standard work (set-up documents, quality check sheets, CNC programs).
  • Recognize problems and offer ideas for continuous improvements using Lean Methodology tools.
  • Maintain a high level of quality for machined parts per quality standards.
  • Successfully use precision inspection measuring equipment, such as micrometers, calipers, inside and outside gauges, and bore gauges.
  • Meet machining standards and achieve daily requirements (e.g., HRxHR, MDI).
  • Ensure upkeep of machines, including autonomous maintenance, chip removal, and tooling.
  • Interpret and modify CNC programs as needed through the change form process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management to support the best interests of the company, customers, and employees.

Qualifications:

  • Typically requires an Applied Science Degree in Machine Tool Technology (preferred).
  • High school education or equivalent, including additional technical training in an approved machinist program.
  • A minimum of 3-4 years of machining experience.
  • Demonstrated shop math skills, knowledge of feeds and speeds, and ability to develop or improvise tooling.
  • Ability to use a variety of machine tools, related jigs, fixtures, and attachments.
  • Good judgment in determining the proper sequence and set-up of complicated work.
  • Good dexterity to operate controls on lathes and other machine tools in forming and shaping parts.
  • Ability to maintain close tolerances consecutively.
  • Ability to adjust as necessary to assure accuracy to job specifications.

Physical Requirements:

The position requires working in a manufacturing-type environment. Moderately heavy work includes the occasional lifting of objects weighing 50 pounds or less.

Pay: Based on experience, ranging from $30 - $42/hr with shift differential.
