Machinist III

This position requires advanced machining knowledge, strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and effective communication with internal teams and external vendors. Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, moving machinery, metalworking fluids, and other typical machining conditions .

Shift: 6:00 AM 2:30 PM (Mon - Fri)

Position Summary
The Machinist III is responsible for programming, setting up, operating, and troubleshooting CNC and manual machining equipment to manufacture precision components that meet engineering specifications and quality standards. This position requires advanced machining knowledge, strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and effective communication with internal teams and external vendors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Program CNC machines using CamWorks and SolidWorks software.
• Utilize Mastercam or GibbsCAM software; training on CamWorks will be provided as needed.
• Perform light G-code editing at the machine to optimize programs and resolve machining issues.
• Set up and operate CNC mills, CNC lathes, manual lathes, and other machining equipment.
• Create and modify basic machine programs directly at the machine when required.
• Select appropriate tooling and establish work and tool offsets.
• Optimize machining processes to improve efficiency, quality, and productivity.
• Read and interpret:
  • Engineering blueprints
  • GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
  • CAD drawings
  • Engineering sketches and specifications
• Perform in-process and final inspections using precision measuring equipment, including:
  • Micrometers
  • Calipers
  • Pin gauges
  • Indicators
  • Other precision inspection instruments
• Troubleshoot machining, tooling, programming, and quality issues to maintain efficient production.
• Perform routine machine maintenance and basic equipment repairs.
• Apply knowledge of material properties and machining requirements for various metals and other materials.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, coworkers, suppliers, and outside vendors.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of machining experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience programming CNC equipment using CAM software.
• Proficiency with CamWorks and SolidWorks preferred.
• Experience with Mastercam or GibbsCAM accepted; training on CamWorks will be provided.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, engineering specifications, and GD&T requirements.
• Working knowledge of G-code programming and machine-side editing.
• Experience setting up and operating CNC and manual lathes.
• Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling selection, feeds and speeds, and material properties.
• Ability to accurately use precision measuring and inspection equipment.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced CNC programming experience.
• Experience with multi-axis machining operations.
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies.
• Experience communicating directly with suppliers and outside vendors.
• Technical or vocational training in machining, CNC technology, or a related field.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
• Ability to bend, reach, and perform repetitive physical activities as required.
• Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to safely operate machine tools, inspection equipment, and related manufacturing equipment.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, moving machinery, metalworking fluids, and other typical machining conditions.
• Must follow all applicable safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
