    DPP is seeking a Machinist II for an opportunity with our client in the Aerospace and Defense Manufacturing industry.
     
    Work location: Onsite in Goleta, CA
    Duration: 12 months
    Terms: W2 Contract
    Work authorization: US Citizen
     
    Position Summary:
    • Support our Machine Shop department.
    • As a member of the Machine Shop department, you’ll work in a fast-paced team environment alongside fellow machinists, design engineers, and quality inspectors.
    • In this job role the machinist will set up, operate, and machine using a variety of machine tools such as lathes (manual), mills (CNC and manual), and precision grinders to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exact tolerances and dimensions.
    • Machinists will interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determine sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup; use a variety of machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments; makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds; measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining; fit and assemble precision parts into mechanical equipment and determine material, parts, and equipment required.
    • Some machines may be numerically controlled.
    • Typically requires completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
    Responsibilities:
    • Set up and operates a variety of machine tools such as manual lathes, manual mills, CNC mills and precision grinders to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exact tolerances and dimensions.
    • Responsible for quality of the product by performing both in-process and final part inspections using a variety of machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
    • Make standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds.
    • Care and maintenance of the equipment.
    • Assuring tooling and materials readiness.
    • Maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
    • Provide training to others in all aspects of Mill/Lathe equipment setup, operations, and maintenance.
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills with ability to work with others at all levels of the organization.
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

    Required Qualifications:
    • Familiarity with CNC Mills and machine programming software (example Mastercam, CAMworks, etc.).
    • Must have experience running manual machines and performing set-ups.
    • Ability to read and interpret production specifications, production diagrams, assembly drawings, and technical specifications.
    • Experience in following written set-up instructions and /or performing unique set-ups.
    • Experience fabricating component parts where set-ups are non-routine and tolerances are difficult to acquire and maintain.
    • Able to work in a standing position for extended time periods.
    • Experience in complex measurements and advanced shop math calculations relative to tolerances, dimensions, tooling, and feeds and speeds.
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Machining experience (3+ years).
    • Able to lift or move a minimum of 35 -50 lbs. for up to 12 hours per day; pushing or pulling 35 -50+ lbs. occasionally throughout the workday.
    • Must be a U.S. citizen.
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience with Fanuc and HAAS Controllers preferred.
    • 4+ years’ experience on 3 Axis CNC machines, 4 and 5 Axis is a plus
    • Proficiency in CAM programming with Mastercam preferred.
