    Tri-Rivers Career Center Adult Education is seeking an experienced Machine Trades Instructor to provide hands-on training in manual lathe and milling operations, precision measurement, print reading, and safe machine-shop practices.

    This part-time position is a great opportunity for an experienced machinist, tool and die maker, or manufacturing professional who wants to share their expertise while continuing to work in industry. Prior teaching experience is not required. We are looking for someone with strong technical knowledge who can translate real-world shop experience into practical, engaging instruction for adult learners.



    What You'll Teach
    Instruction for this 56-hour adult Machine Trades course may include:

    • Shop safety, PPE, machine guarding, housekeeping, emergency procedures, and hazard awareness

    • Basic blueprint reading, machining terminology, dimensions, tolerances, and common drawing symbols

    • Precision measurement using rules, calipers, micrometers, indicators, and related tools

    • Workholding, cutting-tool selection, speeds and feeds, cutting fluids, and fasteners

    • Basic machining calculations

    • Safe operation of drill presses, saws, cutoff machines, and offhand grinders

    • Manual lathe operations, including facing, turning, drilling, boring, grooving, parting, and taper work

    • Manual milling operations, including squaring stock, face milling, peripheral milling, and slotting

    What You'll Do
    As a part-time instructor, you will:

    • Deliver engaging classroom instruction, equipment demonstrations, and hands-on lab training

    • Demonstrate machine setup, measurement, and inspection techniques

    • Help learners build practical skills and confidence through hands-on activities

    • Reinforce a disciplined culture of safety and accuracy that reflects real machine-shop expectations

    • Evaluate student progress through direct observation, practical exercises, skill demonstrations, and performance reviews

    • Maintain accurate attendance, progress, and completion records, and reinforce the program's 90% attendance requirement

    • Maintain an orderly, inclusive, and safety-focused lab environment and promptly report equipment or safety concerns

    • Help learners develop professionalism, teamwork, communication, tool care, and workplace readiness skills

    • Prepare learners for continued training or entry-level manufacturing work

    • Collaborate with Tri-Rivers staff and program leadership to keep training aligned with employer expectations and current manufacturing practices

    The position also includes participation in applicable staff training, program recruitment and retention efforts, advisory committee meetings, and collaboration with program and administrative staff.

    Job Requirements:

    • Five or more years of experience in machining, tool and die, manufacturing, industrial maintenance, or a closely related field

    • Demonstrated proficiency with manual lathes and manual milling machines

    • Working knowledge of precision measurement, blueprint reading, machine setup, tooling, speeds and feeds, and shop safety

    • Journeyperson credentials, industry certifications, an associate degree, or formal training in machining or manufacturing technology preferred

    • Experience with CNC machining, CAD/CAM, GD&T, quality systems, or production troubleshooting is a plus

    • Experience training apprentices, onboarding employees, or mentoring entry-level machinists preferred

    • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift materials, tooling, or equipment up to 50 pounds, with assistance when needed

    • Ability to work safely around operating machinery, metal chips, coolants, and noise while using required PPE

    • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

    • Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to learners with varying levels of experience

    • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills

    • Commitment to safety, professionalism, and student success

    Schedule
    This is a part-time instructional position. Classes are expected to meet during evening hours, with dates and meeting times set by the Adult Education program. Occasional additional lab time may be scheduled as needed, providing flexibility for professionals currently working in the trade.



    Compensation details: 38.42 Hourly Wage
