Description

Constellation Search Group is looking for a Machine Shop Manager for a full-time direct hire position. This is a crucial role within the organization, responsible for overseeing and coordinating the machine shop. The primary aim is to ensure efficient production workflows while maintaining high-quality standards and adhering to delivery timelines. Candidates should possess strong leadership capabilities, technical expertise in manual and CNC machining, and experience in managing production schedules and workflows within a manufacturing setting. **

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee daily operations of the machine shop to ensure productivity, quality, safety, and efficiency.
  • Plan and adjust production schedules based on job priorities, workload, machine capacity, and available resources.
  • Coordinate work between machining, fabrication, engineering, quality, and final assembly to prevent delays and bottlenecks.
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, quality, and production teams to maintain efficient workflows and meet job completion deadlines.
  • Lead and mentor machinists by assigning work, offering training, setting expectations, and giving performance feedback.
  • Troubleshoot production bottlenecks, equipment failures, machining challenges, and quality issues with maintenance and quality teams.
  • Evaluate machining requirements including machine capabilities, tooling, setups, routing, and expected run times.
  • Work closely with Final Assembly and Engineering to ensure custom jobs meet specifications and production deadlines.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance machine utilization, workflow, setup time, quality, and overall shop productivity.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety requirements, OSHA regulations, and quality standards.
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing leadership role within heavy steel machining or a low-volume/high-mix, made-to-order custom manufacturing environment.
  • Experience leading machinists or machine-shop personnel in a production setting.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems for production planning and inventory control.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, CAD drawings, tolerances, and technical specifications.
  • Ability to lead teams, schedule work, and prioritize multiple jobs in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and manufacturing quality-control practices.
  • Working knowledge of manual and CNC lathes and mills; CNC programming knowledge is a plus.
  • Understanding of machining processes, tooling, setups, machine capabilities, and expected run times.
  • Ability to identify workflow constraints and make informed decisions regarding job sequencing, machine selection, tooling, and resource allocation.
