Description

Excellent Starting Pay: $23–$28/hour with a shift differential

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Perform all duties necessary for the efficient operation of all equipment in the plant. Operate and maintain plant equipment in accordance with standard work and building procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Continue to maintain current skills through training, classes, and on-the-job training.

  • Set up, adjust, and operate CNC turning center machines.

  • Be capable of tending multiple machines in a production environment.

  • Maintain maintenance and production logs.

  • Work from blueprints, operation sheets, programs, specifications, and verbal instructions.

  • Maintain tools and machine adjustments.

  • Be accountable for process evaluation, measurement, documentation, and continuous improvement.

  • Reset tools as required to produce parts within close tolerances where finish requirements are difficult to maintain.

  • Check setup and production parts using a wide variety of precision measuring instruments.

  • Actively participate in department and process team activities and projects.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Work overtime as required, including extended shifts and weekends, to meet business needs.

  • Participate in peer-based teams, such as Natural High Performance Teams, and work with groups to initiate and implement programs such as Lean Manufacturing and 5S.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education Required:


  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Short-term trade training in NC or CNC (1–2 years).

  • Qualification in S.P.C.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1–3 years of experience in metal turning.

PREFERRED SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS


  • Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Sound decision-making skills.

  • Knowledge and understanding of conventional/conversational programming.

  • Good math, reading, and writing skills.

  • Ability to maintain continuous mental, visual, and auditory attention.

SKILLS / COMPETENCIES


  • Basic computer skills.

  • Near visual acuity and accommodation for reading information and performing job tasks.

  • Constant alertness to surroundings and product quality, with strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to use a variety of measuring instruments, such as calipers, micrometers, bevel protractors, scales, and other precision tools.

  • Ability to read blueprints and drawings.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Ability to exert 31–100 pounds of force occasionally.

  • Ability to exert 11–30 pounds of force frequently.

  • Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Ability to lift up to 30–35 pounds for a single-person lift.

OTHER SKILLS

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

ASSESSMENT


  • Successfully complete pre-employment screening.

  • Successfully pass a mechanical aptitude test.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS / SCOPE


  • Report directly to the Value Stream Team Leader.

  • Work closely with other departments to resolve issues related to processes and equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The employee may be subject to:


  • High noise levels from operating machines and equipment.

  • Physical hazards associated with operating machines and moving reels.

  • Work in areas where safety equipment is required, including steel-toe shoes, eye protection, and hearing protection.

  • Standing for extended periods of time.

  • Regular walking, pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, turning, twisting, squatting, and lifting.

  • A high degree of manual dexterity, which may be required under restrictive conditions.

  • Flexible hours and short-notice overtime requirements.
