Tracked Vehicle Mechanic – M109 Family of Vehicles (FOV)

Position Summary

BAE Systems Combat Vehicles is seeking a Tracked Vehicle Mechanic to provide field-level maintenance support for M109 Family of Vehicles (FOV) artillery platforms, including the M109A6, M992A2, M109A7, and M992A3.

The Tracked Vehicle Mechanic will perform scheduled and unscheduled field-level maintenance and repairs on U.S. military equipment in accordance with customer requirements and applicable U.S. Army Technical Manuals. The mechanic will troubleshoot technical problems, identify equipment faults, and recommend appropriate repair solutions.

This position works as part of a field service team under the supervision of a BAE Systems Field Service Engineer or Technician who serves as a subject matter expert on the M109 Family of Vehicles.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform field-level maintenance and repair on M109 Family of Vehicles artillery platforms.
• Conduct scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on the M109A6, M109A7, M992A2, and M992A3.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment issues.
• Perform system and component fault isolation and determine appropriate corrective actions.
• Use U.S. Army Technical Manuals, engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics to perform troubleshooting and repairs.
• Provide technical assistance related to the operation, maintenance, servicing, and repair of M109 FOV equipment.
• Support vehicle operation, preventive maintenance, component replacement, and system repairs.
• Document maintenance activities and complete required reports, data collection, and other technical documentation.
• Work collaboratively with BAE Systems personnel, contractors, military personnel, and other customers.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other mechanics or Field Service Technicians when required.
• Follow company policies and procedures, including safety, ethics, conduct, and proper time-accounting requirements.
• Maintain a safe working environment and perform all work in accordance with applicable safety requirements.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of field-level maintenance for the M109A6 and/or M109A7 artillery platforms or comparable U.S. Army tracked combat vehicles.
• Ability to understand technical data related to vehicle operation, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repair.
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to read and interpret:
• U.S. Army Technical Manuals
• Engineering drawings
• Electrical wiring diagrams
• Schematics
• Understanding of military maintenance systems and applicable maintenance procedures.
• Ability to diagnose complex equipment problems and recommend effective solutions.
• Proficiency with computer-based programs used for reporting, data collection, training, and presentations.
• Ability to organize and prioritize short- and long-term maintenance activities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with internal and external customers.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a field service team.
• Ability to provide technical mentorship to other mechanics or technicians when required.

Education & Experience

• 4–8+ years of related experience performing maintenance on M109 Family of Vehicles or similar U.S. Army tracked combat vehicle equipment.
• Associate degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
• Candidates with approximately 5+ years of direct M109A6/M109A7 experience may be considered based on overall qualifications.
• Previous military service is preferred but not required.
• Prior field service or field maintenance support experience on artillery or tracked combat vehicle platforms strongly preferred.

Preferred Experience

• Hands-on experience troubleshooting, repairing, and servicing M109 FOV vehicles.
• Detailed knowledge of M109 system operation, assemblies, and subassemblies.
• Experience with component- and system-level fault isolation and repair.
• Knowledge of military maintenance procedures and associated technical documentation.
• Strong understanding of tracked vehicle mechanical and electronic systems.
• Experience supporting relevant U.S. military vehicle or artillery systems in a field environment.
