Job Posting Information

Lincoln Water System is seeking to fill the role of LTU Water - Utility Equipment Operator I. This position requires skilled work in the operation of a variety of equipment related to the repair and maintenance of public utility facilities.

This Safety Sensitive Position is subject to Mandatory Drug Testing policies as a condition of employment.

Hours: Monday - Friday 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; On Call as scheduled.

Location: 2021 N 27th Street Lincoln, NE 68503

Nature of Work/Examples of Work Performed

  • Perform construction services for contractors and plumbers.
  • Perform repair of water main breaks.
  • Check and maintain hydrants.
  • Locate, check, and maintain valves in the water distribution systems.
  • Responds to emergency water main breaks after hours.
  • Requires frequent contact with Water customers.
  • Lifts items weighing up to 90 pounds
  • Climbs ladders in and out of excavations up to 15 feet deep.

Desirable Knowledge, Abilities & Skills/Desirable Training & Experience

  • Knowledge of the operating requirements of equipment used in the maintenance and repair of a water supply and distribution system.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety measures and precautions used in the operation of assigned equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand water construction plans.

Minimum Qualifications/Necessary Special Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent and at least 6 months experience in the operation of trucks and construction equipment, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Valid drivers license. Valid commercial drivers license (CDL) is required or the ability to obtain within 90 days of appointment or equivalent.

Current employees transferring, promoting or demoting into a position requiring drug testing who test positive have the right to have their sample retested (by a DHHS certified laboratory, the original laboratory will follow approved transfer procedures) at their expense, if requested in writing to the City/County Human Resources Director within 72 hours of the final result provided by the MRO. If upon retest the results are found to be negative, the City/County will reimburse the costs involved with the retest. If the results of the retest, are positive, the cost will not be reimbursed.
