Certification Preferred:
- Valid Standard Certificate: Preferred candidates hold a Michigan Teaching Certificate with an Early Childhood (ZO) endorsement.
Instruction and Planning
- Deliver the Curriculum: Follow existing lesson plans or design age-appropriate activities aligned with early learning standards if none are provided.
- Differentiate Learning: Support varied developmental stages, learning styles, and individual student needs, including basic special education accommodations or IEP goals.
- Assess Progress: Track student participation, complete basic grading or developmental tracking, and keep detailed daily records for the returning teacher.
Classroom Management and Environment
- Maintain Nurturing Structures: Keep firm, warm, and predictable routines for five- and six-year-olds, utilizing clear multi-step directions and smooth transitions.
- Positive Reinforcement: Use gentle redirection, praise, visual cues, and interactive attention-grabbers (like songs or clapping patterns) rather than punitive measures.
Professional Duties and Communication
- Parent Collaboration: Update families on classroom activities, behavior milestones, or concerns via email, notes, or phone calls.
- Staff Integration: Attend grade-level team meetings, collaborate with neighboring teachers, and check in regularly with school administrators.
