Job Summary

The Logistics lead hand is responsible for overseeing and directing the day-to-day operations of the logistics department, including the movement of materials, products, and resources both within and outside the manufacturing plant. This role ensures efficient, timely, and cost-effective delivery and receipt of goods while maintaining full compliance with company policies and industry regulations. This role leads a team of logistics personnel, supports 3PL scheduling, and ensures timely deliveries to customers and internal departments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise, coach, and develop logistics staff to coordinate inbound and outbound shipments, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of material.

• Lead negotiations with carriers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and logistics service providers to optimize cost and service levels.

• Oversee the tracking of shipments and proactively address transportation and/or border-related issues to avoid delays.

• Work collaboratively with warehouse, production, and planning teams to maintain accurate inventory and streamline stock replenishment.

• Manage supplier relationships to improve lead times, optimize delivery schedules, and ensure on-time material availability.

• Support production planning by providing updated and accurate logistics and delivery information.

• Approve and oversee the preparation of all necessary shipping documentation, including customs paperwork and bills of lading.

• Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including hazardous material handling, import/export laws, and safety standards.

• Maintain oversight of logistics records and reports, ensuring accurate tracking of shipments, deliveries, and inventory movements.

• Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to reduce costs and enhance logistics efficiency.

• Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) in line with industry best practices for logistics management.

• Lead cross-functional projects focused on lean manufacturing, logistics automation, and operational efficiency.

• Serve as the escalation point for logistics-related inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.

• Address and resolve critical logistics issues or delays that could impact production or customer satisfaction.

• Coordinate with carriers, vendors, and customers to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.

• Foster long-term relationships with logistics partners, vendors, and customers to ensure reliable service delivery.

• Monitor vendor performance and negotiate contracts to achieve cost savings and improved quality standards.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Proven leadership experience in Logistics, Warehousing, and Manufacturing Environments.

• Strong proficiency with logistics platforms and tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, ERP systems, shipping software like FedEx/Purolator/UPS).

• In-depth knowledge of warehouse and inventory management systems, and ERP platforms.

• Exceptional organizational and leadership skills with strong attention to detail.

• Ability to manage priorities and lead teams effectively in a fast-paced environment.

• Experience negotiating with logistics vendors, carriers, and customs brokers to optimize service and cost.

• Familiarity with regulatory requirements related to customs, transportation, and hazardous materials handling.
