Day in the life
At 6:00 AM in our Lexington, NC locomotive truck overhaul shop, you’ll join a small, focused crew serving our TSSSA customers. Reporting to the CS Production Manager, you’ll rotate between precision teardown, inspection, rebuild, and final checks—owning quality at every step until each locomotive truck is ready to return to service. Your shift runs Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–2:30 PM.
What you’ll do
- Perform complete overhaul maintenance on Siemens locomotive trucks aligned to the production plan.
- Remove, inspect, and fit components using Siemens work instructions and quality standards.
- Re-profile train wheelsets on a state-of-the-art wheel lathe when required.
- Pre-clean parts with a pressure washer to enable effective inspection.
- Move trucks and heavy components safely with overhead cranes and approved lifting devices.
- Collaborate with the warehouse to pick spares and materials from stores.
- Maintain shop housekeeping and support other tasks as directed by Management, Supervisors, and Lead Technicians.
What you bring
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 2+ years of experience in a predominantly mechanical environment.
- Accurate documentation of work performed and parts used.
- Knowledge of tool control; skilled use of torque wrenches, measuring devices, and appropriate PPE.
- Able to read and interpret technical drawings and publications.
- Capability to produce clear, detailed technical reports.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Bonus: railroad or overhaul background; overhead crane and/or forklift experience.
Physical demands

- Comfort working at times in a non-climate-controlled shop.
- Regular standing, walking, sitting, climbing stairs; balancing; stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; and frequent use of hands for tools and components.
- Frequent verbal communication; occasional tasks may require detecting odors.
- Lift and/or move items up to 40 pounds.
- Vision needs include close and distance focus, color differentiation, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The base salary range for this position in Lexington, NC is $46,002 - $62,016. The actual salary/wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
